A bit about myself. Obviously not as bright as you are. Everything on BlueSky is off the record. Upstate NY. He/Him http://www.ewabbott.com

The neighborhood children are enjoying that last sunny day before school starts on Thursday and while I love the sounds of a vibrant community, I am going to, like Depeche Mode told us to, Enjoy The Silence.

Some of the good things about having broken my sleep schedule are: 1. Missing whatever counts as evening entertainment. If I am asleep by 7:30, I don’t know what the real housewives have done below deck. 2. Being able to start my day in the dark & quiet. Both IRL & online. 3. Baking bread early.

Note to the void: if contract work for you requires that I use my own eq, that’s fine. If it requires that I install your software to monitor my eq, that’s a violation and a non-starter.

I routinely joke with a friend that the graphical internet was a mistake. Given the way Sport™️ has evolved over the years, I am thinking that ESPN was a mistake as well. Kind of joking. (In the same way that CNN changed the way reporting worked, you know?)

I was just checking the Instagram feed for the Troy Running League (www.RunTroy.com) & so many of the ads are entirely Generative AI. If you’re trying to sell me, and my organization, a product and you don’t care enough to present it in a way that takes care & effort, then it’s a pass for me.

All summer long I have been baking a skillet #bread nearly every morning. 100% hydration. At least 12 hour countertop fermentation. Four ingredients. 450° F for 45 to 60 minutes depending on volume. Rack to cool for 20 minutes. Perfect way to start my day.

I don't have anything noteworthy to say about the passing of Wendell Berry that other people, generally smarter than I, have already said. I am just going to ask you to read his collection of essays from forty years ago, "Home Economics" to see why his writing is relevant still.

Speaking of running, the gentlemen of the @theincomparable.com’s #MagnumPI podcast have been shouting me out all summer. It’s a great listen if you are an Xer with a certain type of nostalgia. Thanks to @snell.zone, @djl.bsky.social, and @philipmichaels.bsky.social for the support & laughter.

If you’re a #runner, and you want to make it happen, you can make it happen. I like doing fun things and I’m at the point where I’m just going to do the fun things now. If three people join me, great. If no one joins me, I still get to do the fun thing.

Custom buckles aren’t terribly expensive. Tyvek bibs aren’t expensive at all. Timing using phones/GPS isn’t expensive and in a small enough group we don’t need permits.

I just finished putting on two back-to-back months of segment running in my small city. At the gathering to give the awards and talk about it a runner was lamenting that she doesn’t know what she’s going to do after the Chicago marathon. One of the other runners suggested an ultra.

I am begging all small business owners to stop making videos where you are talking straight to a handheld camera & either lamenting how hard it is to run a small business OR scolding me for not coming in to your place of business.

Psychology nerds: I had a hard time with the word "episode" the other day after a bit of a workout. It did sound right coming out of my mouth. Without any other context, is that aphasia or semantic satiation?

I just saw a commercial for a new business in Troy. It’s a vintage shop. The commercial was made and disseminated by the BID. In the voice over, we were told to come in to get our new clothing. This irritated me. New-to-you wouldn’t have bothered me but new runs counter to vintage.
