Part of launching a new #specfic magazine is the allure of the unknown. I have a vision of what Exoplanet can be, but I can't control the #submissions we get. The stories and poems I select from that slush pile will set the tone for the magazine's future and help define what "Exoplanet story" means.

I'm impressed with the strength of the #specfic community on Bluesky. I've all but given up on the former bird app as a useful way to promote Exoplanet. Bluesky has plenty of magazines, authors, artists, and readers. I'll explore other options, but this will remain at the top of our list.

I should mention something to avoid confusion. While I'm starting Exoplanet from scratch in 2026, there was a previous Exoplanet magazine that shut down in 2020. The domain lapsed a few years ago, so I scooped it up. It's sad when a lit mag closes, but I love the name and hope to do it justice.

I should probably mention our policy toward AI. We do not accept stories written by or with AI. Using a tool like Grammarly to check your spelling, grammar, and punctuation is fine. Heck, use ChatGPT to help write your short bio if you like, but we only want to read human-authored stories and poems.

Fascinating! Seven times larger than its own star. And making it through the red giant phase of that star must have been a good trick. I don't think a white dwarf has a habitable zone, but it does make one wonder what it would take to survive in this star system.
