If we’re arguing about politics it’s because you’re wrong

GOP has propaganda outlets & infrastructure that would not survive normal market conditions and that lets them create the "background noise" of American politics. Doesn't mean that everything they try becomes a successful attack *individually* but it does mean that they can pounce on a trend and

the lesson from the right is not that their obsessions with trans volleyball, anti Haitian blood libel, or reversing the change in teen pregnancy rate are actually the well framed kitchen table issues of the volk but simply that political discourse becomes about things people say often and loudly

Large portions of the data center backlash are based on moral panic, but the the tech right VC types upset by it are very funny considering how gleeful they were about the demise of ‘legacy’ media. What’s that? You’re missing epistemic gatekeepers who would place complex facts in context? Tough shit

what if i do not want to be optimized. what if i want to make mistakes because that’s how you learn; what if i want to do nothing sometimes, what if i want a world that is weird and challenging and has mysteries left to reveal. what if i like taking the long way

I think its nuts that when anybody asks SOTH Johnson about a racist thing that Trump has said or a fascist action Trump has taken that they let him off with a "I'm not aware of that" but every time El-Sayed is in front of a camera he has to answer to what a guy on the internet said one time.

if i were a dem politician asked about hasan piker i would simply say “i will answer your question about the twitch streamer no one has heard of but first i would like to point out the president was best friends with the worlds most notorious child rapist and yall stopped asking him about that”

Captured: 40%-45% of the electorate, lives in an alternate reality and completely unreachable. Susceptible: 10%-15%, may sit out an election or (rarely) vote for a D for narrow reasons, doesn't see the 'system' as broken, just sometimes GOP goes "too far" 1/2

The Last Essential White Guy@far-far-away.bsky.social · 3mo ago

It’s not partisan polarization when describing the electorate. We need to discuss the electorate more now as three groups: captured by RW info ecosystem, susceptible to it, and outside of it but still affected by it. The first 2 groups are about 55% of voters.

I get that most of the WHPC is now just RW chuds, but there are literally records of what we transferred that reporters could get to confirm this & follow up. And even add, "but you knew what the stockpile situation was when you returned, why didn't you make replenishing them a priority?

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com · 3mo ago

REPORTER: Are you concerned about the weapons stockpiles? TRUMP: For some of the more sophisticated stuff, we'd certainly like to have more. Biden gave a lot of it away.

This article reads like stuff I see in my industry (marketing) all the time - "Just because sales are falling doesn't mean our digital marketing efforts didn't work! If you use the proper metrics, is was a actually huge success, and we should turn it into a case study for pitching other work."

I know I don't have any juice, but if there is anybody who loves aviation like me in my tiny follower list, please please please give this account a follow and sign up for the newsletter. We all talk a big game on here about needing to leave twitter/X, this how we can do something about it.

Spent years building up a big following on Twitter, essential for publicising my aviation blog, which I live from. Desperate to leave it & publicise on nicer platforms, but I have too few follows. If you want to help me escape, do give this a share. Much obliged. My blog here: hushkit.substack.com

I think about the boxer Imane Kelief at the Olympics. Assigned female at birth, raised female, always competed as a female. Even IF there is some combo of genetic markers that might be more common in stereotypical males, she meets their dumb “what’s yer plumbing?” *test*

Max Kennerly@maxkennerly.bsky.social · 4mo ago

Guaranteed: 1) Black girls will be harassed and demanded to be tested over and over again regardless of how competitive they are. 2) Winners from public schools will be relentlessly hounded by the parents and coaches of losers at private schools, with the goal of making them quit the sport.

If I were part of a Dem Project Nega2025, I'd want to make a serious run at trying to "de-financialize" our economy as it seems to the core enabler of so much terribleness. Tax the rich, yes, but it is extremely limited as most of the ultrawealthy's resources are illiquid. But they can tap money 1/x

You also can’t have any bad luck. There are just no margins anymore, no space to get back on your feet. The New Deal created that America; the GOP has spent the last 40 years trying make life like the late 19th century again. That’s the root of the “vibecession”

GOLIKEHELLMACHINE@golikehellmachine.com · 5mo ago

“because i made poor decisions” is a really important part of this. there’s no room in this world to fuck up and fail, and that’s, in my opinion, a real problem.

IMHO this is also who MSM newsrooms tend to adopt conservative framing of stories or keep stories that are bad for Dems afloat much longer than ones that are bad for the GOP - because the relentless firehouse from gop propaganda outlet is such a huge part of their everyday environment

One thing I learned when I was just out of college and watching 6-8 hours of Fox News a day for my research job at Media Matters: Ingesting hours of propaganda on a daily basis changes you, no matter how smart you think you are. If you don't notice the changes, that just makes you an easier mark.
