I was going to make a joke about how my Cuisinart was actually a form of AI because of how it cuts things on its own but then I realized that as a joke it could actually be taken as pro ai, in that no oceans are drained for my Cuisinart’s ability to cut things very small

tarzan of the apes (extremely naked and fully erect Philip José Farmer version) will sex-wrestle the rogue AI into submission while shouting "kreegah bundolo," which, as john connor has ensured through a time travel subplot, is the secret shutdown phrase backdoored into the mainframe

Saw an ad for a bank that emphasized the sterility of an AI-automated world and showed how you get human interaction at the bank, and once again thinking about cooption of anti-AI aesthetics to sell bank

When I was younger I had a pair of pants taken from an ex-boyfriend and at the time I thought I liked them because of lingering affection for him but I came across a basically identical pair of pants in the wild and it turns out they just look really good on me

Not that we need more examples of the enshittification of the internet but I was trying to look up the word eleemosynary the other day only I believed it was spelled eelomosynary and I could not find it at all and in 2007 it would have come up in 3 seconds

I am moving offices within my workspace and I have been dragging my heels on it and I finally just set up my computer and phone in the new office so basically I understand burning your boats on the beach more than anyone else

The most important thing I learned this week is that if you accidentally chew an Advil (or, I guess, if you purposefully chew an Advil) your entire mouth will start burning

I understand that joking commentary about spam is the lowest of the low hanging fruit, but you have to admire how vividly this email invokes the image of a coming civil war

A spam email that advertises the ar15 your grandkids will fight over

This is a sentiment you hear a lot from now-elderly people who grew up without a lot of material comforts. Their perceptual and material worlds were pretty well aligned! Now we basically all live in the perceptual world of the wealthy. It’s hard to imagine anyone not knowing what they don’t have.

My dad grew up very poor in Philly but notes he didn't really realize it because everyone else in his neighborhood was in the same boat. Mind you, my dad is also very old.

I have ten million things I’d like to say about Helen DeWitt but I’m saving it for column I intend to pitch where I, the daughter of a classics professor, review novels and books involving classics for their realism
