Federation of European Publishers

@fep-fee.bsky.social

FEP is the voice of the great majority of publishers in Europe. We represent 31 national associations of publishers of books, learned journals and educational materials, in all formats, in Europe. More about us: https://fep-fee.eu/

On 17/9, a delegation led by FEP President Sonia Draga & Vice-President Phaedon Kidoniatis met with Chairwoman of the #CULT Committee Nela Riehl and Commissioner for Culture Glenn Micallef Among the subjects discussed, the Culture Compass, transparency for #AI & proper funding for the book sector🙌

With 39 other organisations in the creative sector, FEP rejects the AI Act's implementing measures. They represent a betrayal, not a compromise. Instead of fostering transparency & legal practices, the European Commission sold out Europe's creators to non-European tech companies.

Performers and creators have the right to decide whether or not their work is used by AI companies and to be paid fairly when it is. Consultation responses are in. The government must listen to our world leading creative industries and be at the forefront of fair AI regulation. #MakeItFair

Glad to be there with so many other organisations representing the cultural and creative sector! 🙌

🔁EuropaNostra Last week, we joined the inaugural #CultureCompass consultation, with Cssr @GlennMicallef, @EPCulture, @POLAND25EU, & 50 cultural organisations 🇪🇺 We highlighted #heritage’s role in shaping a shared European identity & called for ➕ funding & stronger cross-sector collaboration 🤝

Happy to attend this event with several other associations representing the #cultural sector in #Europe and #Commissioner Micallef! Our shared cultural heritage is a fundamental part of the European values and as the biggest cultural industry in the #EU, the #book sector plays a key role in it!

In times of great challenges, culture remains vital to the European project. Today, the EU Commissioner meets with stakeholders to shape the future of cultural policy. Your voice matters. #StayTuned

🚨 Time for alarm bells: the AI code of practice undermines the AI Act. Testing AI with systemic risks for risks to human rights, democracy, disinfo, discrimination or illegal content is now suddenly voluntary?! Very dangerous in this geopolitical world and fully against what we agreed in the Act.
