Diagnostics are critical to controlling #Ebola. But major challenges remain: • Unreliable electricity and power supply • Limited lab capacity and trained personnel • Insecurity making sample transport and access difficult Diagnostics require infrastructure, logistics, and sustained investment.

CORRECTION: The war is not costing the US tens of billions of dollars. That’s just the price tag of missiles fired & hardware smashed. The actual cost to the US is *hundreds* of billions, and very possibly *thousands* of billions. Justin Wolfers has crunched the numbers.

What would we do without the @who.int? I hope American republicans and Argentinians who were supportive of their country’s exit reflect on what’s happening with Hantavirus and why WHO is so critical to keep all of us safe.

I just spoke with Dr Freddy Banza, the @who.int staff still on board of MV Hondius, and captain Jan Dobrogowski to get the latest updates. I used the opportunity to express my appreciation @ecdc.europa.eu and the Dutch medical teams on board. #hantavirus

Reviewing a journal article by an extremely senior well-known global health person and the referencing is atrocious. Absolute garbage. The academic in me is screaming. Please do not use your stature to avoid using Zotero or Endnote properly.

As a Malaysian I am utterly embarrassed that given our GDP we are providing only a paltry amount to @who.int. Ensuring you have a seat at the table, can agenda-set, and can influence global decisions is not guaranteed merely by being a WHO member state. Money talks and translates into power.

Gentle reminder to my global health colleagues developing policy briefs: please date your documents. It is absolutely shocking how many policy briefs there are out there with no dates. It’s maddening.

Great to hear Guillaume Long, senior diplomatic advisor to The Hague Group & former minister of culture /Ecuador, on how “fear has been the greatest obstacle” to The Hague Group work - especially by Member States who fear how engagement may impact their relationships with the United States. #webinar

WATCH: Researchers at Stanford University modeled how many people could die or be disabled in 25 years if vaccines for polio, measles, rubella or diphtheria were no longer available.

This is a comprehensive investigation of patent abuse of a Keytruda & the best I've ever seen patent data visualisation of evergreening practices and the resulting thicket until 2046 - another extra twenty years of patent monopoly right h/t @clancyny.bsky.social

#CancerCalculus: An ICIJ-led collaboration with 47 media partners in 37 countries reveals how Merck & Co. keeps the price of its lifesaving cancer drug Keytruda sky-high, locking out patients and squeezing health care systems worldwide. www.icij.org/investigatio...

Did not think that I would be worrying about an entire civilisation being wiped out. Agreeing with @drtedros.who.int today that peace is the best medicine. May we see sense - and may we work every day on the shifting of the world order towards one that still prioritises the rule of law.

The theatre that is Arab leaders saying the Arab League is weak while in the same breath failing to acknowledge that it is Israel, not Iran, that is destabilising the region, is the core reason that the Arab League will continue to be weak. Continuing to fellate the U.S. will bring you nowhere safe.

If there’s anything Iran and Gaza have taught global south peoples is that Western morality is fragile and two-faced, and that building defence systems to mitigate for another catastrophic failure of western morality is necessary.

Why do I not know any of the little girl’s names from Minab? Why do I not know what poems those little girls studied, the names of their mums? The dreams they had. Somebody tell me so I can remember them for the rest of my life. 💔
