Lots of good info in this @status.news newsletter but as a longtime TV news person this really jumped out at me: Alfonsi's contract is apparently up this month and the boss hasn't said a word? That is wildly unprofessional. Stunning, really.

Elsewhere, Sharyn Alfonsi is not expected to have her contract renewed after clashing with Weiss and publicly criticizing the decision to hold her “Inside CECOT” story. Weiss has not communicated with Alfonsi about her future or offered her a new contract, a person familiar with the matter told Status earlier this week.

Line chart titled "Oil price futures are near all-time highs and oil is expected to remain expensive at least through the mid-term elections" showing November 2026 West Texas Intermediate futures prices. Crude oil futures have surged 53 percent from a low of $55.67 in December 2025 to $85.60 on May 15, 2026, with particularly sharp acceleration beginning in March 2026. Current prices are at their highest level for this contract, exceeding $20 per barrel above previous peaks and suggesting elevated oil costs will persist through the November 2026 midterm elections.
