Bordeaux, France, has now recorded more days above 40°C in 2026 alone than during the entire 105-year period from 1920 (when observations began) to 2025. This is deeply shocking.

I've never seen anything like it. Salta, Argentina, has just recorded its hottest night on record during the climatologically coldest time of the year. The minimum overnight temperature did not fall below 26°C (78.8°F), pulverizing the previous monthly record by 7°C.

Yesterday the Telegraph reported on my comments about air conditioning. The comment section is quite something. I have apparently become a hero of the anti net zero crowd by saying something what I think is sensible about air con. Allow me to point out three ironies in this 🧵

Juni: Schlimmste Hitzewelle in Westeuropa seit Beginn der Aufzeichnungen. Neuer Hitzerekord in Deutschland.

Despite all the noise today I'd really like you to read this, as I think it's crucial. Hitze!

Juni 2026. Viele Städte zeigen 30, 39 oder sogar 40°C Maximaltemperaturen

Imagine if hundreds of people died in an extreme hurricane or floods smashing through Europe Heatwaves have already killed that many people. They are an extraordinary silent killer in that they dont generate outrage or fear.
