"whatever, everyone already uses it anyway so it's fine" is just not really the message a sorry person promotes. I'm frustrated by how everyone just gave him the benefit of the doubt. I'm not feeling very forgiving when this is the messaging. I don't think I'm being unreasonable either

Hey creatives: Folks will remember. If you were aggressively against AI, like Gutierrez was as recent as last year, and then suddenly turn around and go NO I GET IT NOW IT'S AMAZING as soon as you get a project with a big payday? Your peers will not forget that. You will never be trusted again.

I am horrified and disgusted by BuzzFeed taking my character, The Good Advice Cupcake, and giving it to an Al platform. My time at BuzzFeed was marked by continually being taken advantage of and lied to. They repeatedly assured me in good faith that they would never do anything with Cuppy without my input, yet offered me no legal options, insisting that I would never need them. The news that this character, who is based on my own personality and whom I created as a microphone to spread love and positivity, has been taken and turned into a soulless Al puppet feels like having my intestines pulled out of my body.
Somebody leaked the news to me early on that there were talks happening, and I pleaded with the CEO Jonah Peretti directly not to do it. Instead, he tried to talk me into signing an NDA. Obviously, I did not.
This is an assault on artists everywhere.
I encourage you to boycott BuzzFeed and any Al-produced or adjacent animation.

A special thank-you message from GAMEOVERSE showrunner, RubberRoss!

It doesn't feel real but we're finally here. Gameoverse is a long time passion project of mine and I'm excited to finally get to share it with you all. Thank you to Glitch for supporting me in bringing my vision to life, my amazing crew of artists, animators and storyboarders and our partner studios who assisted us throughout this production.
I'm very proud of what we've created and hope you like it enough that we get to make many more like it! This project was rejected for over a decade by all the major studios, but I refused to quit. I hope that can be a testament to creative perseverance and truly believing in something you're passionate about. To all the artists out there who have something they care about, fight on, don't quit. You've got this!

Really feel for Braly and the larger entertainment industry right now. It's all being run by people who don't care and have no trouble making it clear how much they don't care

It is such a buyer's market for studios, and the amount of talent that is out there, it has allowed executives and studios to be a little disrespectful, if I'm honest. They'll have bake offs. Oh my god, they'll have these bake offs. And people will be in these bake offs that you would not believe, like high-caliber talent, and they're all expected to do treatments for free.

And then the team at the studio or the executives sit down with all of these, oh my god, these phenomenal British Bake Off cakes. And just like… “No, no, no.” But it's like, ‘holy shit, you just rejected an idea from the creator of such and such. Like it was nothing.”

There is this weirdness in the business where the value of an individual vision, the auteur vision, it is just in the can. It is in the toilet, nobody gives a shit. This is sort of what I've been telling people: the level of Not-Give-A-Fuck-itis has never been higher.

Actually, I reached out to the feature studio I was working with, and I got permission to actually say, “hey, this project's not moving forward.” And it was a way for me to do a baton pass and get into my next thing. Maybe I can use this colossal failure to at least launch me into something else.

But in this business, you're actually expected to just like, shut the fuck up and not talk about these projects that never made it – even the ones that are deeply personal, and I think that is incredibly toxic and destructive to careers, because if some person, some guy or gal, has spent three years developing an incredible project at a feature studio, and they're not allowed to talk about it, show artwork for it, or… how are they going to get another job? It's a really big problem, and I understand why it is the way it is.

But I'm very grateful that this studio was at least like, “we understand, you should tell people.” Of course the great irony of me posting, like trauma dumping to the internet, and being, ‘Hey, I had this great project. It was very personal to me. It was about Thai spirits. And here's a little bit of the artwork.’ That was me being like, ‘I'm moving on. I cannot keep hoping that someone's going to pick this movie up.’
