By-The-Wind-Sailors Marazion was awash with thousands of Wind Sailors this afternoon, these Hydrozoa are free floating animals that live out to sea in vast numbers. They primarily feed on plankton and use nematocyst toxin to catch their prey, so do wash your hands afterwards if you pick them up.

Oxygen supersaturation has been reported to protect aquatic animals from heat waves. We tested this in a large collaborative experiment on many species of fish and crustaceans. Our new paper in @plosbiology.org shows that the effect of hyperoxia on thermal tolerance is negligible. Unfortunately.

New blog post alert! 🚨 Read about a new tool to track stress of marine invertebrates with heartbeats 🐚 💓 @coastalwarming.bsky.social @fplima.bsky.social
We’ve built an open-source system to automatically record and analyse heartbeats in mollusks and crustaceans, helping us understand how marine life copes with environmental stress. 💙 besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.... @electricbluecrl.bsky.social @coastalwarming.bsky.social

Climate change threatens even the tough ones. Our new study shows that even Ascophyllum nodosum, a tough brown seaweed, struggles with rapid temperature swings during low tides, and populations across Europe vary in their heat tolerance. Read more here: jecologyblog.com/2025/05/20/c...
