Torture tries to destroy lives. We won't let it. We stand with survivors, providing therapy and support, and fighting for change together.
It shouldn't require legal action to establish the democratic value of consultation but our recent High Court victory, concerning allocation of asylum accommodation, has done just that @freedomfromtorture.bsky.social @helenbamber.org www.civilsociety.co.uk/voices/our-h...

Our recent High Court victory sends a clear message that consultation with civil society is fundamental to good policymaking. The new government must work with experts & people with lived experience to build lawful, evidence-based policies. Our joint op-ed with @freedomfromtorture.bsky.social 👇

A far-right march and counter protest are planned in Glasgow city centre on Saturday 25 July. We urge anyone who is concerned to avoid the area if possible. We've put together information and resources to help you stay safe and support each other. Get more info here: https://ow.ly/5oom50ZrpiU
1 in 5 people believe torture is acceptable in some circumstances. We know that torture is never acceptable. The safeguards and laws that protect us all must be upheld without exception. Where do you sit? Take the poll now. https://ow.ly/ab9K50ZnKmQ
Today, MPs debated the Immigration Bill. Appeals exist for a reason: because asylum decisions can be wrong. For survivors of torture, an incorrect asylum decision could cost them their life. When someone's future, safety and freedom are at stake, the appeal process must be genuinely independent.

Torture is always wrong. At a time when the global torture ban is under threat and the UK is taking steps which risk watering down our vital protections against torture, we are reiterating this message loud and clear.
No matter who we are or where we come from, we all deserve to live in safety. Yesterday’s judgment is a vital and resounding victory for torture survivors, who for too long have suffered under this harmful policy.
We won! The Home Office’s changes to their “Allocation of Asylum Accommodation Policy” have been found to be unlawful. The changes forced survivors of torture to share rooms with strangers, placing them at risk of harm. We will never give up fighting for dignity and justice for survivors.

Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia. Across the world, LGBTQ+ people are still subjected to torture simply for being themselves. Survivors carry those experiences long after the harm ends. We stand with survivors whose identities have been used against them.

Article 3 is 15 words that protect so many. Simple, powerful and absolute. Right now, the UK Government is suggesting that the “interpretation” of some of our most precious protections should be reconsidered. This is dangerous ground. Find out more: https://fftdonate.org/4eKB4d2
