baffling that it's even possible for someone to be this detached from reality. 30k would cover my debt, cover my remaining tuition, and leave me with thousands more to put into savings. i can't just magically pull money out from my expected lifetime earnings to do that.

Matt Darling@besttrousers.bsky.social · 2d ago

I don't think $30k is a life-changing amount of money. Median American born in 1980 will have $2m in income in their lifetime. It's a 1% increase in earnings.

personally i've hated epic games ever since they killed paragon to shift its resources to develop fortnite, but it's vindicating that they continuously give more reasons to hate them

Bluesky's Head of Trust and Safety handed his block list to a bot. 1,271 people blocked in eleven days. He says it never looks at who you are. Blocks are public, so I checked. Trans people were blocked at 2.5× the odds of everyone else, for posts of the same harshness. 🧵

Title card reading "Who the autoblocker blocked". Three figures: 1,271 accounts blocked in eleven days, against twelve in the two years before. 46% of the readable bulk-loaded accounts had never replied to, quoted or mentioned him this year. 2.5× the odds of being blocked for a trans-identified account, against others who wrote equally harsh posts. Below, a quote from Aaron Rodericks, 1 Oct 2026: "These do not factor in your bio or your identity. I have zero clue who you are."

I think the way that scientific and medical institutions, doctors, etc are able to so callously abandon trans people becomes really easy to understand looking at history as a whole. Aside from the fact that "maybe treat trans people with a shred of dignity" is a concept that was only taken...

if, hypothetically, anthropic isn't lying about this (they are, though, to be clear), it means they invented and are profiting off of an intelligent being that they invented for the purpose of being a slave, and if that were true everyone at that company should be [REDACTED]

Anthropic is out with new nonsense about Claude (or the collection of models called Claude) deserving moral consideration and/or be able to feel distress, so my inbox is filling up with journos asking me to comment. I've also got a day job, so here is a brief set of public comments on this: >>

people always speak as if "this important software for me doesn't work on linux" is some fact of the universe and not a choice by the developers. if more people were annoying about it rather than just accepting it, it wouldn't be an issue anymore.

"If trans people want a boycott of The New York Times, where's the call to do so?" Here is a declaration laying out how the NYT is a key driver of trans genocide, why boycotts work and why anyone who gives a damn about trans lives and rights must boycott The New York Times.

Boycott The New York Times

For years The New York Times has relentlessly pushed anti-trans propaganda, playing a significant role in the escalating genocide against us. It's far past time for a call to action: anyone who cares ...

hey if u need a soul crushing statistic to counter basically any transmisogynistic claim just remember trans women only make 60 cents on the dollar.

The case to ban kids from social media, with Jonathan Haidt
33 mins
Feb. 11, 2026

Jonathan Haidt, best-selling author of “The Anxious Generation”, is our guest today. He’s been on a global mission to educate parents, the media, and government officials about the harms that social media companies inflict on children.

He believes that the world ran a huge uncontrolled experiment on kids in the 2010s by giving them smartphones and social media accounts. And now, there is clear evidence – often through court case disclosure – that the experiment has harmed children, and that it’s time to call it off.

got incorrectly reassessed by the CRA and they're claiming i owe them over $1.5k of my canada worker's benefit payments back, except i have clear evidence that they're wrong lmao. wonder how many months it'll take to clear that up 🙄

no kings seems to have no theory of change, just "if we get millions of people to call trump fat and gay the government will stop being mean" "everyone is 12 now" theory remains undefeated
