FUSEE: Firefighters United for Safety, Ethics and Ecology

@fuseefire.bsky.social

FUSEE does public education and policy advocacy promoting safe, ethical, ecological wildland fire management. We support wildland firefighter safety and wellness, Indigenous sovereignty/ cultural burning, and fire management for ecosystem resilience.

The country is using nearly all of its wildfire fighting resources far earlier in the season than usual... On July 18, the country reached “Preparedness Level 5” status, the highest possible level on a scale that measures how much wildfires are taxing resources. www.notus.org/climate-envi...?

U.S. Firefighting Resources Are Already Maxed Out — And It’s Only July

National wildfire response coordinators are triaging across fires raging primarily in Oregon, Colorado and Washington.

Yes, this whole thread! The increased severity of wildfires across the globe is directly linked to a warmer, drier, and more extreme climate.

#Wildfire season is #Disinformation season! 🔥💬 I debunked very common but misleading arguments designed to deny any impact of #ClimateChange. Every year they keep coming back - with catastrophic fires near #Bordeaux and #Madrid, this year is no different. 1/6 volksverpetzer.de/analyse/wald...

Too much fire prevention education focuses on individual homeowners. But avoiding urban fire disasters requires collective action by whole communities to reduce risk of catastrophic urban fires. Calling all community organizers to wildfire preparation now! www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Great question from @fuseefire.bsky.social founder Timothy Ingalsbee: “The question is, why were they attacking that fire in the first place? […] What was actually at risk? If it was a bunch of shrubs on remote mountaintops, what was the real risk that justified putting those firefighters at risk?”

One of the #firefighters killed Saturday worked for the newly created US Wildland Fire Service, established this year under a Trump-admin directive to consolidate firefighters from 4 federal agencies + implement a discredited policy to stomp out wildfires within 24 hours apnews.com/article/wild...

Thanks to The Globe & Mail for covering my work to end the federal misclassification of wildland firefighters. They protect our communities in dangerous conditions, but many are still classified as forestry workers, not firefighters and this has to change. They are firefighters. Full stop.

New Spotfire! Blog post: "In Alaska, there’s a regular joke among firefighters saying that rather than wasting money on doomed project fires, it would be cheaper for the government to contact threatened cabin owners as the fire approaches and offer to buy it." fusee.org/fusee/saving...
