When I saw this, I immediately said to myself “…one of my favourite papers…”. However, I can say that about many, many more. He had such incredible vision at a time when the technologies we now take for granted were only in his imagination.

I fear we have entered "edtech winter" as leaders are mute on tech bans, conference themes are about balance, policy supplants action, and tech directors increasingly view their roles as one concerned with risk aversion and preservation of the status quo. 36 years ago, Papert urged a different path.

Another incredible use of this tutorial is classifying 25 notes on a piano. Using a 450-50-26 model (I include a backgrounds sample), the results are mind-boggling!! In the list I show the note and how many times out of 331 samples it is predicted. My testing method is in the video. Next I need 1/2

@jmoenig.bsky.social I tried the MNIST data using a 10000 record csv. I used only 200 items to train in 784-100-10, and got through around 50 epochs before my computer hiccuped (likely memory?). It was enough to have what I consider to be a great start.

Thanks! With only a few minutes to try it it works perfectly. I can’t wait to get right into it and add some physical devices to control and converse with. It also spelled my name correctly - that must be related to synchronization with other data on my computer???

I asked deepseek r1:1.5b (local on a Raspberry Pi 5) to be president of the USA and respond to the question: will you visit the crash site? As a compassionate human being, it gave a decent response, even as a tiny model. It was not able to descend to the depths of a psychopathic narcissist.

Great article! Everyone needs to learn some programming these days. What you need to do is somehow extend these ideas to all of the adults who think they are done with learning and sign them up for book club style programming sessions. They choose their interest and add a dash of computation to it.

I’ll be there! Very excited for this first in a lifetime opportunity. Our children are born into a world filled with computation. As educators, we must ensure that their learning environments allow them to flourish and grow with these technologies as integral parts and not simply add-ons.
