This is one of my favorite HCR images, not only because it is beautiful but because it was one of the first 6 color HCR FISH experiments we imaged. It showed me what was possible for studying stinging cell biology, and has led to several ongoing projects! #StunningStella #ToxinTuesday

This week's #MicroscopyMonday shows the expression pattern of 6 members of an important family of structural genes in stinging cells. These are shown in different colors across the larvae from the sea anemone Nematostella.(@mgstowers.bsky.social Lab)

We are super excited to see this published. Podocoryna is a wonderful jellyfish model. Closely related to the model organism Hydractinia, easy to culture in the lab, and now a high quality genome!

Happy to share that our manuscript "A chromosome-level reference genome for the colonial marine hydrozoan Podocoryna americana" is now available at G3: doi.org/10.1093/g3jo... Many thanks to @baxevanislab.bsky.social, @pcart.bsky.social, @amkatzer.bsky.social and all the co-authors!

It's almost East Coast bedtime on Day 1 of the United States of Science 2026! You all absolutely killed it today. We filled 1268 bubbles today!! 23 States are DONE, & 8 are within 10 bubbles. You are all incredible!! Keep the momentum going here. Fill bubbles here givebutter.com/USS2026

a map of the united states with a blue west coast, pink middle, purple for northeast, and green southern states. Half of the bubbles are full!

The 2026 United States of Science Challenge starts NOW! Each bubble represents classrooms we’ve matched with scientists this year. This a competition to fill bubbles with $10 donations to support @skypeascientist.bsky.social The first region to fill all bubbles wins. 👇🏻 givebutter.com/USS2026
