Interesting to see that the responses to the Sex Purge movie are either 1) "Wow, this is surprisingly charming and well-made. Who would have guessed?" or 2) "This is shockingly conservative and regressive. How dare they??"
The last stretch of 2026 will include 1) completing and defending my dissertation, 2) applying for real deal academic jobs, and 3) the birth of my son. Things are about to get NUTS around here.

Doing an ODYSSEY round 2/Spider-Man matinee double feature tomorrow in a pairing I’m calling “Holland-Days Sauce?”, which will determine definitively if Tom Holland has the sauce as a movie star.
As happy as I am to see the box office recovering this year, it’s also a little bittersweet when I also haven’t unreservedly loved any of this year’s films.

It’s bizarre how much more earnest melodrama and commitment to its premises Marvel’s X-MEN cartoon for children engages in than literally any of their movies.
Was responsible for programming movies for my extended family vacation. I gave them lots of options and the crowd went with THE NAKED GUN (2025), DISCLOSURE DAY, ROOFMAN, and GAME NIGHT. All went over well, but I think ROOFMAN was the biggest crowd pleaser.
That Mike Flanagan CARRIE show looks like some of the most disposable streaming detritus I have ever seen.
Coogler breaking the Oscar nomination record and immediately going back to Marvel is a real bummer, I gotta say.

I finally asked my mom (I couldn't remember), and she told me it was The Lost Boys when I was roughly the same age as my daughter (about 9). The movie traumatized her more than it did me, apparently
Just saw a review that referred to THE ODYSSEY as adapted from the "Homer novel." Read a fucking epic poem, guys.
I get the good husband award for waiting until Sunday to see THE ODYSSEY when we can get a babysitter and the wife can join me.
My daughter is now walking all over the place, and I’ll be damned if she doesn’t walk just like me.
