Serious Christmas cloud cover in Torbados this year; Xmas Eve was beautiful but today is like living in the cloud. Out walking for an hour and my hair looks like I’ve just washed it. Hoping everyone else’s weather is clearer/brighter.

A heavy layer of fog/mist fills the air; you can make out the outline of Oddicombe Beach on the left and some bushes in the front of the photo but the rest of the usual view is obscured by misty atmospheric grey air.A heavy layer of fog/mist fills the air; you can make out the outline of Oddicombe Beach on the left side and some bushes in the front of the photo but the rest of the usual view is obscured by misty atmospheric grey air.The top of a wrinkled forehead with mousey grey hair in a small quiff and tied into a pony tail. The hair is covered in water droplets. The background is cream bathroom tiles.

Here’s a story about how researching the racist origins of Jingle Bells helped me uncover some antique family drama. Quiz: what is jingle bells about? A) Christmas B) Street racing C) Picking up women D) A vehicle accident?

Just read my 693rd Prevention of Future Deaths Report this year. Only: 16 relate to learning disabled people (who aren't autistic) 3 relate to learning disabled, autistic people 16 relate to autistic people (without a learning disability) 5% of all PFDs, feels way too low to me #NotFullyHuman

Two red felt ginger bread outlines sitting in wheelchairs. Text is hand stitched on them. The one on the left reads: CIPOLD 2013 43% of DEATHS of people with learning disabilities were UNEXPECTED, the one on the right reads: CIPOLD 2013 42% of DEATHS of people with learning disabilities were PREMATURE

“David overcame a lifetime of challenges, not least the attitudes of professionals in health and social care who did not understand that, just because a person cannot speak words, it doesn’t mean they can’t think and feel.”

David Lodge's inquest finished on Friday, coroner found he died from natural causes contributed to by neglect at Hull Royal Infirmary. His family statement www.georgejulian.co.uk/2024/12/23/d... "David was a person, first and foremost, but that was forgotten by those treating him" #OpenJustice

A catalogue of trauma, breaching rights, with an enduring impact on a young person and her family. A council unlawfully issue care proceedings, during which time Ella's mother and siblings were required to leave the home, and it made changes to care and education support, with devastating impact.

A pink floral banner attached to white railings with yellow cable ties. the cross stitch words are an Audre Lorde quote and read: When we speak we are afraid our words will not be heard or welcomed but when we are silent, we are still afraid, so it is better to speak

Truly horrific experiences @ellychapple.bsky.social I am so sorry for what you have had to endure 💔 Working with parents of disabled children I know this is a fear that the majority of families have How hard do you ‘fight’ for your child before the wrath of the professionals descends ??

Please read this if you can - it’s masterfully written, a very difficult read in places, but it’s well worth your time

Essential reading. What happened to the Chapple family is horrifying. My admiration for Elly is boundless.

"The council had unlawfully issued care proceedings, that required @ellychapple.bsky.social and Ella’s siblings to leave the family home, whilst care proceedings were ongoing. It also records changes were made to Ella’s bespoke care and education package ... causing her significant distress"

This is so important. And so awful. It is a catalogue of abuses of power at every level and it is unconscionable that all of those involved are the very people who are supposed to help.

This read is so horrendous but sadly unsurprising. ‘found that parent blame was not in the heads of families, but was built into the systems activated when parents sought support to enable their disabled children to live a good life.’
