There are some pieces of paleoart that to my eye are so fantastic that I regularly come back to them to just stare and marvel them. Peter Trusler has made many such pictures but these 3 particular ones are just of such exquisite quality that they take my breath away every time.

A detail I like about this piece is that one of the Allosaurus is looking in the juvenile’s direction. It’s not any less dangerous of a task, though, with all the adults amok and probably not taking kindly to the theropods. Art by John Gurche

5The Concavenator's carcass floats due to the buildup of gases; soon its rib cage will burst, and it will sink, giving rise to what, 125 million years later, will become “Pepito,” one of the most incredible fossils ever found in Spain

painting that I sort of abandoned. deemed it overdramatic for my taste I guess. I always imagined this was a scene from early jurassic coastline. was going to add a pterosaur (Dorygnathus,Campylognathoides or Dimorphodon) there about to snatch the dragonfly, but never got around to it

Oviraptor ~ egg thief 🥚🍳 . This was a design I worked up a while ago when looking at famous fossil discoveries which included the oviraptor found sitting on top of a nest. . This design is part of a much bigger themed piece which I look forward to sharing soon

Is this the only legitimate piece of paleoart of that recent discovery with the Hell Creek coprolite preserving a bird feather? The only other ones I saw were all AI...one of which was a dinosaur sitting on a toilet... Art by Andrey Atuchin.

Welcome Dinodontosaurus isiyavamanda! I'm delighted to introduce you to a new species of protomammal. Hailing from the Triassic of Tanzania, this is the first record of Dinodontosaurus outside of South America, and it informs on the origin of dinosaurs. Here's a thread summarising our findings 🧵

Sometimes I get caught up in complicated compositions with lots of elements. This was going to be one of them, but I was completely stuck—not realizing that the solution was a simple render with three heads, a piece of meat, a pretty sky, a bunch of flies, and some editing

What do you do when you have to tackle a pop culture superstar like the Allosaurus? Everyone knows it… so many people have recreated it that it’s hard to offer anything new. The solution, at least for me, is to try to do the best job possible and hope people like it

This #paleoart of #Pteranodon standing on a wave-crashed rock seems to be a favourite for some, judging by steady print sales over the last 10 years. I recall it coming together quickly, probably because I did it for my own enjoyment and fully engaged with my impulses towards romantic art.

A moody male Pteranodon longiceps, sporting an overbite and a giant, slender headcrest, stands on a dark, narrow rock amid a swirling, crashing sea. The next wave's height will reveal whether this guy is the biggest badass to ever bear membranous wings or a grade-A moron for standing on a tiny rock in such a violent sea.

A group from Morelladon advances through a gallery forest following the riverbed. The march should be led by the large adults, in this case a female flanked by two males, but some rowdy juveniles, still sporting their juvenile coloration, have moved ahead of the group
