It's like when I learned from Black elders that most participants in what we now call "the Civil Rights movements" didn't use that name but instead called it "The Freedom Struggle." "Civil Rights" turns a specific victory into an end point, a taming of the mass struggle for true freedom. 3/

Failing to acknowledge how America's origin in Indigenous genocide, land theft & mass enslavement still shapes our economy and politics today traps us inside a toxic fantasy. Until we reconcile with that past it will continue to haunt us and be a barrier to building a society that works for all.
Come on, calling people pointing out the physical limitations that prevent DAC/CSS from being scalable climate solutions "anti-climate action" is silly and unstrategic. As is the analogy with solar since solar replaces fossil fuels while DAC/CSS are used as strategies to entrench fossil fuels.
As the saying goes "the North won the Civil War, but the South won the peace." I didn't realize that extended as far as actually renaming the whole conflict to further whitewash the fact it was a fight over slavery. Civil War is quite the euphemism compared to "Slaveholders Rebellion" 2/

Chad Loder@chadloder.dev · 5d agoThe diarrhea lettuce company, Taylor Farms, uses slave labor contracted from the Arizona Dept. of Corrections. The backbreaking labor is often performed by imprisoned Mexican nationals who would be otherwise ineligble to work in the US. They are paid $1.50 an hour.
