Just a guy who did an antifascist drawing once, and used to tweet about Holiday Road. Also just a guy not actually named Nolan. I have an itchy block finger and am often in a foul mood, but I swear I’m often nice! Co-host of @MMISpodcast.bsky.social He/Him

Hilariously, most of the same people who claimed Reagan “made the Soviet military spend itself into collapse” (lol) were the ones who proudly voted for Trump if they were still alive. Because fiscal conservatism is a made up thing.

A bunch of the most incompetent people on earth are learning that the U.S. military isn’t able to spend its way to victory, a lesson most people probably should’ve learned long before I was born.

This is an astounding loss for the US if it comes to fruition. One of the biggest strategic losses the US has ever endured—perhaps biggest?—and all from a war the US chose to start for no reason, illegally.

I’m a real crank about modern American society, but all the cracks about shitty American food by smug wrong Euros were largely accurate circa 1986. My kids regularly eat food that is head and shoulders above what I had at their age. There were still people around who learned cooking in the 50s!

Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

air travel is one of those experiences that has gotten monotonically worse over my entire lifetime

question though: has *anything* in the last 40+ years genuinely gotten *better*?

like, there's *more* stuff, sure, but is any of it *better*?
