It analyses eight fascinating letters sent by Irish kings to the kings of England in the 13thC, while also providing a full transcription and translation of them in the appendix. The manuscript of the week is RIA MS 23 E 25, Lebor na hUidre/Book of the Dun Cow. It was written in Irish at Clonmacnoise before 1106 A.D. In 2012, with @ceilteachomn.bsky.social, we held a conference on the book. The papers were published as Codices Hibernenses Eximii I & recordings are available.

42 years ago, Mary Manning — a 21-year-old Dublin cashier — refused to ring up South African grapefruit. She was suspended. Ten colleagues walked out with her, and their strike lasted almost three years, until Ireland became the first Western country to ban apartheid goods.
"don't cite what you haven't read" remains the basic entry level academic responsibility; & if your discpline "doesn't have that as a norm" then sorry, your discipline needs reforming for this new world. Citations are structural parts of trust and knowledge building, not trinkets or optional extras

Despite being fake, the sources are widely assumed to be authentic the more they appear in published literature.
