You know when you search through your camera roll to look for something? Well I was doing that earlier and I was hunting through early 2022 for something. And I realised that even though I looked absolutely terrible back then my background daily levels of fear were about 100x less than they are now

I showed up to a regional union meeting today, to brief people on some practical trans stuff. And I’ve been thinking for much of the day how weird it feels - how weird it must look - to show up and be professional when charting a tactical path through such personally horrific, terrifying matters.

We already live in the world where only cis teens can take puberty blockers. Cis people availing of treatments that are denied to trans people isn't some massive glaring inconsistency in their worldview. It's banal cissexism, denying us the means to change sex because we're viewed as lesser.

Feel like it’s a very specific trans milestone where you’re reasonably certain that your voice passed during a phone conversation with the General Register Office.

When I became my department’s director of education a little over two years ago, I said to the previous DoE that I assumed this was a role where you basically don’t do any research for the duration. He said he thought it was important that people see that you’re still doing *some* research.

Someone I’m close to turned 40 this week, which has left me thinking about the phases of a life. I remember hitting 33, and being like oh no, even if I live to 100 I’ve now got a whole third of my life behind me. I’d made my final decision to transition within the month.

This is the broad vibe of a not insignificant amount of legal scholarship.

Trans rights is inherently a bodily autonomy issue. Just like abortion rights is. We can't have gender equity or reproductive freedom without trans rights. Full stop. You can yell at me and make up shit that you claim I've said if it makes you feel better. I don't care. I'm right. And you know it.

I know I’ve told this story before, but I grew up in poverty and when I was a kid I used to sit in on the textiles teaching my mum did for Zimbabwean asylum seekers.

I just don’t think I would put my name to a work document explaining how to commit an act of conversion therapy within the law AND THEN resign. I just think she’s got the sequencing all wrong there.

One assumption I have always carried with me is that anyone I have heard of but who I do not know is probably a bad person, and it’s their actions as a bad person that have put them in a position where I have heard of them. It doesn’t always work as a heuristic, but it very very often does.

I know that I pass better than I once did and am also quite pretty. There’s a guy who was so incensed by my being trans that he literally beat me in the street over it last year; but then when he walked past me recently he - despite his obvious motivation to identify trans people - didn’t clock me.
