Persepolis was read all over the world—a true international phenomenon. Assigned in every class subject under the sun. During the Obama years, West Point cadets were assigned the book. There's never been anything like it; never anyone like her. What an awful world that couldn't hold her longer.
What a tremendous loss. RIP Marjane Satrapi 💔
Once again.
We did it y’all. Bread Pillow Boy graduated from high school!!! 😭
I’m featured in The Perseverance Interviews today on how a viral tweet helped me turn my most-rejected essay into my biggest success. Thank you @megpokrass.bsky.social for inviting me to participate! megpokrass.substack.com/p/grace-loh-...

I made spaghetti carbonara with sardines instead of pancetta (since I don’t eat meat) and it was pretty good actually
Happy Mother’s Day to all immigrant and diaspora mothers 🌸 If you’d like to read more on these themes, I wrote a memoir called The Translator’s Daughter bookshop.org/p/books/the-...
As an author I love going to conferences and book fairs and meeting other writers and readers, but I only sold 2 books and ended up buying 4, proof that not all Asians are good at math 😂😭
I know it’s trivial in the scheme of things but I’m bummed that I can’t use one of my favorite emojis anymore because the twinkly star now symbolizes AI ✨😞
It finally happened. I’ve discovered the absolute limit of how many tabs I can have open at once before having a panic attack.
When your father is a professor and your mom directed Salaam Bombay
What is this framing my times?!
10 years ago I went to Taiwan 3x in 5 months as my dad’s health declined. I was wrestling w/ my grief at the same time we lost beloved artists & our country felt headed in the wrong direction. This essay is a time capsule from 2016 & Bowie was my soundtrack www.themanifeststation.net/2016/10/14/d...
I’m relieved Trump did not destroy an entire civilization last night, but his unhinged threat and illegal war make it clear he is unfit to serve as president. Trump needs to be removed from office. And we must oppose his administration’s new $1.5 trillion budget proposal for more war.
a “ceasefire” that lasted 17 hours and killed 254 people in lebanon is not a ceasefire and referring to it as one is inaccurate
🔥 @rokhanna.bsky.social to Democratic leadership: “Get out. Let a new generation lead. You’ve been ineffective. The base doesn’t like you. The base wants fighters.”
More context on this #Artemis II image: * This is the night side, lit by moonlight. You can see city lights in Spain & Portugal, & a sliver of day at lower right * The Sun is entirely behind Earth, which makes it a kind of solar eclipse, but w/ Earth doing the eclipsing instead of the Moon: ☀️🌍🚀🌕
People who actually write know that writing is inseparable from thinking. AI doesn’t think so its output isn’t writing… AI generates content that *sounds like writing* and sadly most people don’t know the difference 😑
I think the reason AI propagandists are so flustered by the fact that no real writer wants to use their idiotic tools is that they themselves don't enjoy writing. They see it as a boring arduous chore to be avoided, while real writers actually enjoy writing and actually care about the quality of it.
I don't need a summary of what's available online, in biographies, or even in my own notes. I need to comb through and find the great details, decide what interests ME. No, it's not efficient. It's slow and painstaking. But I don't believe in efficiency as an ultimate good, especially in writing. /
Books should take forever to write. They should torture you your entire life and the things you could have said slightly better should haunt you forever. This is what art is for, transferring the discomfort of being human into something relatable to the other humans
From Texas to Virginia to Minneapolis, people at No Kings protests agree: It is probably not great news that The Onion is doing so well right now.
Walz: The president said it's a bunch of radicals. You're damn right we've been radicalized. Radicalized by compassion, radicalized by decency, radicalized by due process, radicalized by democracy.
if nothing else, there is something to be said for spending time outside in the sun with thousands of people who share your anger at the state of things
