Six On Saturday: Waxing lyrical
Anyone dealing with drought and hosepipe bans will be sending out the same woeful message. It’s tough. However there are some things to enjoy. So here’s my six for this week. One Tomato…

Afternoon all, six pics of whats flowering in my garden this first weekend of August. We've had a certain amount of rain and cooler temps this week so everything is looking a bit more fresh than it was! (See alt-text for details) #SixOnSaturday #Bloomscrolling #UKGardening #FlowerPhotography
In today's #SixOnSaturday... Mouse Garlic, Hydrangea paniculata 'Vanilla Fraise,' a yellow Cosmos sulphureus, Agapanthus & fragrant Roses 'Togmeister' & 'White Star' 🌱 onemanandhisgardentrowel.wordpress.com/2026/08/01/s...
Evening all. Most of the Crocosmia have been frazzled in the heat, but perhaps unsurprisingly the #red Lucifer did okay earlier this month & made it to flowerhood #GardensHour 🌱
'Alec's Red' is having a second flush of flowers which is even more floriferous than the first #RoseWednesday 🌱
Evening #GardensHour people! Chilli peppers and Cannas are beginning to flower in the continued heat & drought. How are others gardens faring?
A closer look at an alpine arrangement of sedums and sempervivums I just made. I propagated all the plants myself (broke all the pots myself too haha) and have enough left to make another one of equivalent size 🌱🪴🌵 #GardensHour #PlantSky #Succulents #alpines #UKGardening #FlowerPhotography
My mum won an ornamental wheelbarrow in a raffle (as you do), and asked me to fill it with something interesting and low maintainance. Job done I reckon, she's very happy with it 😀 🌱🌵 #SucculentSunday #Succulents #Alpines #PlantSky #Bloomscrolling #UKGardening
The product of a couple of packets of seeds. Just scatter and water! Hosepipe ban looms. #Gardenshour #Mygarden 🌱
Hello fellow gardeners. Trying to keep everything alive this week. An alder that I'd planted in April, dropped all its leaves this week. I've watered it every evening (with a can!) and new leaves have sprouted. 🙌 Nature is amazing. 🌱 #gardenshour #gardeningsky #gardens
Good evening all on #GardensHour. The heatwave continues in Devon so watching the true garden workforce busy at it whilst I carry water around.
Less hot this week, but still incredibly dry, so gardening is mostly watering. I planted these cosmos a bit late, but they're flowering beautifully now. #GardensHour
Evening all. The garden is becoming increasingly frazzled but a few of the seed sown annuals have made it to flowerhood, including this orange Cosmos sulphureus #GardensHour 🌱
#sixonsaturday 18-07-26 : platycodon, bidens, hydrangea, yucca rostrata, clerodendron and a canna for this week. 🌱 fredgardenerblog2.wordpress.com/2026/07/18/six…
It’s been a busy few weeks, but here my latest #SixOnSaturday. We have a Rose, Japanese Anemone, two Geraniums, a Vinca and an Aster Have a great weekend everyone 🌱 #Gardening #UKGardening #FlowerFeed #BloomScrolling
In today's #SixOnSaturday... an orange Cosmos sulphureus, a Foxglove, an 'Alec's Red' Rose, Cosmos, a 'Princess Alexandra of Kent' Rose & Hibiscus 'Marina Blue' 🌱 onemanandhisgardentrowel.wordpress.com/2026/07/18/s...
#sixonsaturday 11-07-26 : the first flower of hibiscus syriacus ‘Blue chiffon’, agapanthus, 3 different vegetables, hydrangea paniculata, pennisetum orientale, and zephyranthes robusta 🌱 fredgardenerblog2.wordpress.com/2026/07/11/s...
In today's #SixOnSaturday... Linaria, baby blackbirds, Phlox, Crocosmia 'Lucifer' & a small Buddleia 🌱 onemanandhisgardentrowel.wordpress.com/2026/07/11/s...
If there are any green fingered Somerset folk on Bluesky, the Somerset Heritage Centre, near Taunton, is putting on a pop-up exhibition on gardening this coming Saturday (11 July) from 10am to 12pm. More info can be found here swheritage.org.uk/events/plant... 🌱 #Gardening #Archives
** Can you help? ** I am unable to host #GardensHour on Monday 20 July, or Monday 17 August. Do you fancy having a go?
'Miss Belgium,' a small Hydrangea, is struggling for a second summer in a row, despite fairly regular watering. The flowers are much smaller than usual & the leaves pretty frazzled. The paniculata 'Vanille Fraise' has faired much better though #GardensHour 🌱
Two blackbird fledglings are being far too casual about life, especially as cats tend to visit the garden at night. Why the daft things have taken to sitting on the swing seat rather than hiding in a tall shrub who knows #GardensHour 🪶 🐦⬛

#SixOnSaturday – Six things happening in my garden this week
Six on Saturday is a weekly meme originally hosted by The Propagator but now in the tender care of Jim at Garden Ruminations. Another heatwave on the way. This is now getting boring as well as frustrating. On the bright side a few of the things I featured last week have moved on significantly. Plus I had my first ever sighting of a hummingbird hawk-moth.
