Off to the UK Midlands tomorrow for my niece’s wedding so no films for a couple of days 🙁 I will of course make up for it at the end of the month with 5 or 6 films a day at FrightFest! 😊

My hand holding up an empty film case.

We're deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Justin Hardy whose latest film, Wrath of the Gods is playing at Tubi FrightFest this August. Justin is best known for his documentary celebrating the legacy of his father Robin Hardy's iconic work. Our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

St. John’s Wort (2001) d. Ten Shimoyama 'Otogiriso' Based on a video game staying faithful to the game's format. Probably has a limited audience who will appreciate this but I enjoyed it. Set in a haunted mansion. I have lots of St. John's Wort in my garden which was what drew me to today's choice..

Saccharine (2026) d. Natalie Erika James Some good prosthetic effects and enjoyable overall but didn't work as well for me as the director's earlier film Relic. At just under two hours perhaps a little on the long side...

Eaten Alive (1976) d. Tobe Hooper Completely blind choice from my shelves but I suspect synchronicity at play Ian? 🤔 The sticky humid atmosphere here in SE England mirrors that in the film. Hopefully there isn't a giant crocodile on the lawn! Great sound design...

La cabina (1972) d. Antonio Mercero El televisor (1974) d. Chicho Ibáñez Serrador From my new acquisition 'Two Boxes: Televised Terror in Franco's Spain'. Both of these were excellent. A surreal short about a man trapped in a telephone box then a feature about a man obsessed by his new TV. #anxiety

Frogman (2023) d. Anthony Cousins The sequel is playing at FrightFest next month but doesn't fit in with my schedule. Nevertheless I've decided to watch the first one. Low budget found footage fare that hots up towards the end. I'll definitely catch up with the new one when I can...🐸

Much as my nearest and dearest pour scorn and ridicule on my mycological obsessions, even they would concede that not only did this Chicken of the Woods (Laetiporus sulphureus) make for a fantastic photo. It also made for a fantastic korma.

INVOKING SCREAM: A buried VHS tape and a forbidden book of witchcraft unleash supernatural terror as Chile's heavy metal horror saga continues. Patricio Valladares returns with the blood soaked sequel to Invoking Yell.

The Devil from Mill Mountain (1955) d. Herbert Ballmann 'Der Teufel vom Mühlenberg' Part of the new collection 'Into the Forest: Folktales at DEFA' from Eureka. Between 1950 and 1989, the East German studio DEFA produced a huge number of adaptations of popular fairy and folktales. Loved this one...

Consecration (2023) d. Christopher Smith That's me up to speed with the films of Christopher Smith. Here we have a supernatural battle that takes place in the shadowy existential wasteland between God and Satan.
