#StarTrek has meant the world to me, taught me how to be mature & optimistic when I was a morose teen, helped me process so many different emotions & experiences as an adult, including especially my relationship with my long deceased father. #StarTrekDay gregorypstringer.medium.com/fathers-and-...

Sixty years ago today, the starship Enterprise launched and with it, a vision of the future where humanity had moved beyond its divisions. I was there at the beginning, and I can tell you...
$16 million later, the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was supposed to be open by July 4. Instead, it looks like this.
This is insane. When I was in first grade my parents let me walk 3 blocks to school in the mornings, and home after it was over. The independence that I got as a child helped me so much in my life. No parent should face charges for something like this, let alone be convicted!
A mom of five was convicted last week of delinquency of a minor. Her offense: allowing her 5-year-old son to walk about a half-mile by himself in their gated community. The government also placed Karyann Parkinson on its child abuse and neglect registry, where she will remain for seven years.

from 1957-1977 the Italian broadcaster RAI ran 1000s of "caroselli" ads, often with famous personalities of the period... my favorite is the series for Barilla (yes, the pasta brand) featuring the singer Mina, particularly her Se Telefonando, filmed (1967) on the roof of the Naples train station...

Google on a mission to destroy one of its only products that has been an unqualified success. Classroom has basically become K-12 public school infrastructure at this point. Parents need to tell their districts about this so they can turn that setting off. Teachers must be able to disable it too.
“…a new Gemini tab within Classroom will allow students of all ages to seek A.I. help on math problems and writing assignments. They can also generate course aids like study guides, quizzes and flashcards, as well as produce images.”
Been watching sodes of old school TMNT on my flight home and realizing young me was set up with very unrealistic expectations regarding the bravery, diligence, and integrity of journalists by April O’Neil.

hello my dear friends — if anyone has a lead on a sublet ( room or apartment, furnished or un) in Manhattan that starts in August or September…. i’m about to be homeless AND dogless — and I really need to be able to live near my graduate classes on fieldwork :))) I was not raised by wolves I promise
Hello #classics Bluesky, this is a stab in the dark, but: I would like to record an episode of Classically Trained, mine and Allison Marlyn's reception podcast, about Nolan's Odyssey. Allison is neck deep in field season and cannot actually join me. Would anyone be interested in a guest spot?
hey #classicsbluesky I am in this! If you don’t have access to the volume—which includes many great pieces besides my own—consider asking your library to add Arion to its collection! It’s such a cool journal for more experimental forms of scholarship. You can also DM me for more info on my piece.

Trump's fascination is not with classical architecture, it's with *neoclassical* architecture as refracted through colonial European power projection, and then poorly strained through the tastes and poses of antebellum plantation owners, American robber barons, and global authoritarian tyrants.
Saw the Odyssey. It was … fine. My hot take, the Armand Assante version is still much better, for a variety of reasons. #TheOdyssey
