Trying to take a social media break in order to wrap up a couple big projects, so may not be here much for a while. A mid-year recap, in case you missed it: zines/writing, performances, resources etc. on the role(s) of artists and culture workers during this authoritarian crisis: guante.info/try
Tonight in MPLS: I'll be at "Resistance Remains" at Bethel Lutheran: craft fair and singalong benefiting the Bethel and Columbia Heights Community Funds: www.bethel-mpls.org/resistancere... I'll have books + art bundles: 100% of proceeds from my table goes to the fundraiser (free zines too). 6-9pm.
I'm supposed to be on a social media break but just want to pop in to say that @davigray.com is a visionary, her new show feels like a portal into a fuller and more life-affirming future, and there are still six more dates to catch it: ThisBodyThisFruit.com

Had a good talk with @justinellis.bsky.social about his new book, The Cruelty of Nice Folks, and racial politics in Minneapolis. He'll be reading at @moonpalacebooks.bsky.social tonight.
When Nice Folks Make Cruel Choices: Journalist Justin Ellis on MN's History of 'Unaccounted for Repression, Rage, Discrimination, and White Supremacy' - Racket
In his book, 'The Cruelty of Nice Folks,' Ellis looks at how when it comes to race, Minneapolis is trapped in cycles of good intentions and failure to follow through.

"When will you be called a domestic terrorist, too? When they killed Renee Good and Alex Pretti, they went on TV and they called them domestic terrorists, the same day, within the hour. When will that happen to you?"

Tom Emmer: "Minnesotans are so afraid that you're gonna call us a racist, you're gonna call us an Islamophobe. You know what? I'm done being even the least bit careful. Somalis don't assimilate. And if they don't assimilate, then they should go the hell back to where they came from."
Last call: workshop is at 7pm ct tonight. Sign up before 3pm ct to get the link to attend. Narrative-shifting is something we can contribute to even when the actual policy changes we want feel far off. Narrative is never "enough," but policy and narrative are always in conversation with each other.
June 25: I'll be facilitating a virtual workshop exploring how poets and other creative writers can contribute to narrative-shifting/shaping work. It's part of @buttonpoetry.bsky.social's running "Button Up" series. Register: buttonpoetry.com/product/button-up-poetry-101/
Liz Soto and Savanna Batten are 2 of those sentenced to 50 years in prison for Prairieland. I visited them in a north Texas jail—11 months into their incarceration over a July 4 noise demo—to meet the Trump admin’s “Antifa terrorists”. from behind glass, Soto said, “They didn’t like my book club.”

Trump wants to make an example out of the Prairieland defendants, so we need to make an example out of them in the opposite way. We need to hold them close and not let the state claim they are the "bad protestors" who fought against fascism "inappropriately."

#Juneteenth reminds us that emancipation did not arrive because the founders carved an ever-widening path toward freedom & justice for all. It came because enslaved people resisted, abolitionists organized, & mass struggle forced a break from status quo. Read ⬇️ www.zinnedproject.org/news/junetee...

I wrote about the astounding indictment of 15 people in Minnesota now charged with an alleged criminal conspiracy against ICE, and what federal prosecutors’ wild “who posted what on Signal when,” “who said what on the ‘Anarchist Speaking Tour’” claims are meant to do:
Trump’s DOJ Is Trying So Hard to Scare People Away From Protesting ICE
Federal prosecutors just leveled sweeping charges against 15 Minnesotans for allegedly conspiring to stop ICE. The charges may not succeed, but a conviction isn’t what the feds are really after.

I've been a performer for almost 20 years, but I've never had a very robust rider. Basically just "I'll bring my own water bottle, thanks." But I've had to add a bit to address AI. Do not generate promo images with AI. Do not intro me using a bio you got via chatGPT. I can just give you that stuff!

new Olivia Rodrigo album is excellent from start to finish, but “stupid song” in particular is going to be an absolute karaoke showstopper
