Todays the 4th and if my notes are right final request of the bonus round. Its for @/crayregular.bsky.social of his character Malva storming into Maeves office. Unfortunately it doesnt appear Maeve was quite home at the time.

Fossil Friday #336: Shark Egg Case from Chowder Flats

Here's a beautiful Palaeoxyris prendeli from Chowder Flats. It's a shark egg case thought to have been produced by hybodont sharks. P. prendeli was named by Leo Lesquereux in 1870. At that time, it was believed to be a plant part, maybe a seed pod. The name palaeoxyris comes from the the flowering plant genus Xyris, which grows in swampy environments in the tropics and subtropics. There are a number of species found in India. There, they are commonly known as yellow-eyed grasses and are characterized by their grass-like leaves and yellow iris-like flowers.

It's #FossilFriday, and indeed the final scheduled Friday that the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia is open to the public, potentially forever. So it's finally time to, once again, talk about Haddy — and bring it all full circle. Strap in, it's a big one.

When "Dolores" the Corythosaurus (first excavated by famous fossil hunter Levi Sternberg) debuted in its Hall of Earth History in 1957, the Academy of Natural Sciences quickly became known among locals as "the dinosaur museum." The Academy is much more, but Dolores remains standing. #FossilFriday

Drexel justified it's move with rather flimsy financial reasons and no plan is given for the building or collections, which include countless, priceless specimens like the the holotype of Hadrosaurus, the animal you see here.

At the beginning of the month Drexel University made public that they want to close the Academy of Natural Sciences at the end of the month. The academy is the oldest natural history museum in the Americas and this would end more than 200 years of research and outreach.

Did someone say it's #WorldGorillaDay? The Academy of Natural Sciences' western lowland gorilla diorama is the only one of its kind in the world — other dioramas either use mountain gorillas or zoo specimens. Du Chaillu's original expedition was also sponsored by the Academy.

[A yellow Kremling with a miner helmet, suspenders, huge glasses, long brown hair (yes it gets messy down in the mines but I don't like ponytails on myself), and two giant pickaxes.] Kourtney is tired of waiting. She knows where her King and most of the Krew went... just not what happened to them. Eventually, she has no choice but to trade in her Kutlass blades for pickaxes and go digging. With a smile on her face, but absolute dread in her heart, she sets off into the Underground World. After all, someone like him doesn't stay gone for this long, unless the worst has happened... and the crocodilian skeletons she finds along the way aren't encouraging. But she has to keep going, no matter what: it's what he taught her.
