Lex and Daemrin, from my urban fantasy, would be fun to have at a dinner party, especially since she's super friendly and he's a charismatic extrovert. Roman and Lia, from my vampire horrormance, are not allowed anywhere near my friends. Their idea of "dinner" is different than ours. #SumLuv

A silly one today about how your characters might behave in the "real" world, and how "real" people might react to them #SumLuv

AI RANT Following the cancellation of three major debut book deals over AI suspicions, I decided to put my own (needless to say, 100% human-written) prose to the test. My detector of choice was Originality AI, and the results proved to be jarring, to say the least. 🧵1/5

Funny you should ask! I'm rewriting most of my vampire horrormance, THE HEART IS A WEAPON, to put more emphasis on the romance. Previously, it read as a supernatural thriller because I'm plot-focused by default, so I really had to step outside of my comfort zone to make the genre switch. #SumLuv

Did you always expect their story to play out the way it has? Is there anything about the story you had to change to accommodate this romantic relationship? #SumLuv

Romance Writers Summer of Love #SumLuv @EllieYellu Day 18: Surprises. What has surprised you most about writing these characters?

A good editor is never trying to force you to change your story, they're there to help you enhance the story that you're trying to tell. A lot of people's fears with editors is that they're going to tell you "it's bad, change it" and in reality it's more like "cool, let's but tell me why it matters"

What’s a thing from your area of expertise (or special interest) that you think it would behoove everyone else to know?

This is not how I define an inciting incident. Instead, for me, it's the first indication that something is amiss or different. In THE DEVOURING, it's the sudden death (murder) of Jason's brother, when just a chapter ago, he was alive and well. #WritingCommunity

She yanked down the cloth to uncover the decedent’s head. Connor’s dull, lifeless eyes stared up at her from the table.

Ayana released the breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding. “Fuck.”

Rahul, who hovered on the cadaver’s other side, looked up at her outburst. “Is it him?”

“It’s him. My brother-in-law.”

“Oh my God. I’m so sorry.”

She shook her head. The appropriate words slipped out of her grasp—if there even were such a thing. Her career had inured her to the sight of death, but nothing had prepared her for seeing the corpse of a man she knew, whose home she’d been invited into. Who’d been alive and healthy just the other day.

Monday #SnippetShare #WritingQ The Moment! I hear a lot about "inciting incidents" but struggle with these. Maybe you can show me the first moment your character makes a choice that sets them irretrievably on the path towards the plot? (No spoilers, if possible!) #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompt

In WHAT THE IRON GAVE US, every temple has its priests, with the head priest of each one working together to ensure smooth operations throughout the city. Priests act primarily as stewards of their cults, facilitating worship and providing wisdom and guidance to laypeople. #MythAugust

#MythAugust 17 Hopefully Bluesky is nice today! 😅 Who are the authority figures among your deities' followers - people who fill the role of clergy or something similar? Is their role generally benevolent, like teachers or therapists? Is it more like witchhunters? Are there prophets? 👀

#MythAugust prompt for Aug 17:
What authority figures do the followers look to? Is there a single spiritual leader (e.g. Pope or Dalai Lama)? Priests, monks, shamans, etc?

Jason, the MMC of my cosmic horror thriller THE DEVOURING, always carries a folding tactical knife hidden on his body. You never know when you need to stab somebody.

Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters What is something your character always has with them? Something they would be loath to leave behind or abandon. A memento? A trinket? A tool? Why do they need it? #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

The way I'm restraining myself from launching into a lecture. 🤪 To put it simply, people in WHAT THE IRON GAVE US worship the gods because it's what is done. There's no question in their minds that the gods are real and benefit humanity, and that worshipping them is right and proper. #MythAugust

#MythAugust 16 What's the motivation for those who worship your deities/spirits? Do they genuinely love & admire them? Is it in an effort to avoid punishment or misfortune? Does their deity give them a special power? As usual, interpret the question however makes the most sense for you!

#MythAugust prompt for Aug 16:
Why do people worship these deities? Is it out of love? Fear? Do they hope to gain something from their worship?

My FMCs tend to have pretty charmed lives (until, of course, disaster strikes) whereas I often put my MMCs through the wringer. 😂 I'll try to flip that sometime down the road, just for funsies.
