He grabs two and immediately starts in on them. “Mmm, still warm!” “Yep. Fresh from the oven.” AJ’s father slides the guitar case onto the stage and waves at me. “Hi, I’m Kyle. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” He half raises his hand to offer a shake but is hesitant likely because I am standing on the stage several feet higher. Even I catch the awkwardness of his bailing on the greeting, so I hop down and shake his hand. “Hi there. I am fo forry!” I spit out the apology while chewing a mouthful of cookie—like an idiot. Thankfully, Kyle laughs at my mangled apology. “No worries, it’s fine. We are standing very close and those emerald eyes and warm smile are focused directly on me, less than a foot away. The eye contact feels just as potent as usual to my brain, but different from other people’s eyes. Rather than the typical anchors pulling me down, the heavy weight of his eyes is more like a warm pile of blankets on a cold night. That is… unusual. With a dorky pat on his hand, I awkwardly step back. “Uh… so… uh, AJ, how about we slow the tempo down and give it a try? Are you ready, Kyle?”

I also know the standard script is to worry about sending the wrong message, but I have no idea what message I even want to send Kyle. He sent me a message in my preferred language of music. My message was rather more blunt and not exactly nuanced. However, there is clearly a dance forming between us. I have no idea where it might lead, and I avoid thinking too far down that path for fear of freaking out at the idea of being that close to someone again. Had an editor point out how often I start sentences with 'and' or 'but'. It is 1st person POV, so it's more casual, but yikes do I use that *a lot*! Also, I apologize if some of you do not get a chance to use the word 'just' when you want because I've used them all up in my writing. Soooo so many.

Half of last week's episode is entirely based on hanging out at a pool to cool off but that's not WIP now.🤷 It's referenced again in parts that are still WIP tho. Like when Katie shows Kyle her new stage outfit. However, it's definitely heating things up rather than cooling them down!🥵 #SundaySnips

As much as he often flails about trying to do even the simplest things, I can tell this man will be able do this. For his friends, he would move the Earth itself. The flickering camp fire accentuates his determined stare. He is beautiful and magnificent. I say, “Lead the way, and I will help you make it happen.” His smile returns, “Really? You would do that for us? I know you’re busy—” “He matters to you, and you… you matter to me.” There is a pause as we look at each other, the fire crackling. Then my stupid phones buzzes again. He finally breaks eye contact and looks down. “I guess you should go.” I stand up but don’t let go of his hand. “AJ, I…” I have no idea what to say, but he looks up at me expectantly. I realize, what I want to tell him does not involve words. I pull my gaze away from him to glance around and see no one near us. With a deep breath, I lean down and kiss him.

She was thankfully only sexually harassed and not worse but that thought is disgustingly terrible to be thankful for. “He’s usually"—“‘Usually’ is a long fucking way from always”—“I know but”— I have no idea when my hands started flapping which annoys me even more since my mother taught me early on that it bothers people and I need to find less noticeable ways to release the energy but it is too much energy and the words are now an incoherent buzz of shouting with an undercurrent of Kyle’s calm voice saying something about calming down but I will not fucking calm down unless he is telling them to calm down in which case I wish they would fucking calm down since it is all too much, too loud, too bright— I finally break and shout, “TOO MUCH! Everyone stop yelling!” That was absolutely not the proper way to handle the situation but the room goes blessedly silent anyway. Rachel does not so much break the silence as she gently eases through it by whispering, “[Redacted], can you turn off the light? It’s… uh… giving me a headache.” Between the quiet and the room now dimming, my thoughts slow their pace. I open my eyes… to everyone staring at me. That really fucking helps.
