you can love a character and still admit when they're wrong. we love Shadow but we can acknowledge his flaws (he has none) and we can hold him accountable for his wrongdoings (he has never done anything wrong in his life) and call him out on his actions (which are always correct)

This is one thing I think Mass Effect's worldbuilding nailed. There was a clear & careful distinction between truly sapient AI (artificial intelligence) that was on the same level as organic cognition, & simulated VI (virtual intelligence) that was basically a sophisticated chatbot.

The uneducated start thinking that fictional depictions of sapient androids, ChatGPT, chess engines, & the script governing grunts in Halo are all the same thing.
