Just a quick reminder that if you're growing your own produce at home, you're still allowed to water the veg. (I'm not; I'm not that organised and can even manage to kill the hardiest house plant. But thought you should all know)
This is absolutely gross. It smacks of the pandemic, when the only recreation that was sanctioned included everything the super-rich made a fuss about. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Burnham and Rayner have got their work cut out getting anywhere near 1.5m new homes by the end of the parliament. Their biggest problem might be voters' obsession with the idea that social housing is bad for communities and a taxpayer rip-off (it's really not) 👇 national.thelead.uk/p/the-house-...

For some weird reason I stayed up with only white wine for company watching the BBC’s Brexit doco. A surreal experience. It didn’t really spend enough time on the role that journalism player in the pre- and postdrome, which I think about a lot.
Andy Burnham’s promise to deliver a new generation of council housing could transform the UK’s response to the housing crisis. But, argues hannahfearn.bsky.social, building the homes is only half the battle. national.thelead.uk/p/the-house-...

I actually really like Burnham’s use of “I’m not having that”, but he needs to give it a rest for a couple of weeks otherwise it’s going to end up being a useful phrase he’s forced to consign to the bin permanently
As a politics junkie, a journalist trained in Lancashire by a true blood trade unionist (RIP Mike Nally) and a former resident of Manchester, this here is the thread of the week 👇
AB, a 🧵
The commentary around Burnham saying No.10 North is the "best day of his life" is so off. Why all the spiteful nonsense about wedding days and birth of children? Weddings are stressful. My first birth was probably the worst day of my life. Nothing wrong with personal professional pride ffs.
Day 5 of the summer holidays and I’m already on the absolute verge. Every room is a version of this mess

I see the CPS' bullshit has reached the Times. As per Hannah, the headline is eye catching, the reality very different. The Tories tried get a pay to stay scheme off the ground in the 2010s - it failed miserably. Fundamentally, the merits are dubious, the benefits doubtful.
What I hope everyone reading this story actually takes away from it is that a household with two people each earning £38k are in the richest 20 per cent of the population.
