Does any publicity is good publicity apply to climate action? Turns out no. Tune into CIUT 89.5FM today at 11am to catch my conversation with @hannamorris.bsky.social about her book Apocolyptic Authoritarianism which details how traditional media coverage of climate has served to slow progress 1/2

It’s so damaging when (usually rich & white) folks suddenly have a “climate awakening”, claim expertise after reading a few reports, malign the work of those of us who have actually been in the thick of it their entire lives, & then eventually get bored & move onto "solving" the next "global issue"

Very disheartening when, in this heightened moment of anti-intellectualism, media darlings who position themselves as "on the left" mine (i.e. take) academic research w/o citing or uplifting the researchers themselves & legitimize this as necessary b/c the researchers' writing is "too academic"

Excited to read this by two writers I admire @astra.bsky.social & @naomiaklein.bsky.social! If you are interested in a related title already written, check out my new book - although I call this reactionary & necropolitical politics "apocalyptic authoritarianism" global.oup.com/academic/pro...

I've been a bit quieter than usual these past months because @astra.bsky.social and I have been going deep into what we are calling End Times Fascism. The research has been bleak, I won't lie, but it's also been inspiring.

Cream coloured text on a rust red background. A crack cuts through the image halfway down.

Text reads:
