So it's farewell to the History subject area at the University of Hertfordshire, not the first nor the last to go. One of the best departments in the country, just extinguished like a snap of the fingers. Think of the waste. (1/2)

One thing the trans community over-indexes on is digital tech experts. We need to use that expertise to make sure that the receipts of the ‘gender critical’ transphobes are preserved and boosted, so they can’t ever hide from what they’ve done!

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. This is undergrad research (not necessarily a problem) without enough information about the aims of the project, who the researcher is or how they will support trans participants. Probably well intentioned but I long ago stopped giving interviews unless the project was clear re its intentions. 1/2

It seemed like the kind of paper that would become outdated before you have even submitted it because the facts are so outrageous that surely something would be done. 2 years later essentially nothing has changed and disabled people are still routinely put at risk and mistreated when flying.

Private Eye tells me that How Green Was My Valley is one of Andy Burnham’s favourite books. Oh dear. I write a PhD on 1930s Welsh mining novels, including a whole chapter on Llewellyn’s work. I even read the terrible sequels. It really, really isn’t a story of working-class solidarity etc.

just got an email from my (former) chair that the university has acted & the state has approved the formal closure of my department. this was done without any faculty input on the decision or the process, & has ended a vibrant, growing (!), humanities department that won teaching and research awards

Anyway, happy Monday! The Dean is shutting down my department - Religion & Culture, the only 1 of is kind in the country & home to the innovative Major in Humanities for Public Service. There is no immediate budgetary or political pressure for this decision

Just had meeting with kiddo's school. She has been fully supported, treated with full equality & dignity for years. All of that changes from September. Full segregation & humiliation across the board. The school staff cried in the meeting. This will absolutely lead to children's deaths 1/2
