I finally started my Gameplainer BlueSky account. I’ll be posting updates about the ever growing tool there from now on. Big updates this month, TikTok is now supported, some new Steam review graphs and plenty of Steam Forum tools. Follow along, or sign up to Gameplainer if you’ve got a game 🤗

Some brand new reports have been added to the /reviews section of Gameplainer, diving into average playtime per country as well as trying to find the pain points of why players bounce of games quickly, and why some hardcore players leave a negative review after getting into the weeds..

I added some new Steam review reports, breaking down playtime by countries. Now you can see which country is the grumpiest - for Mixtape it turns out to be Kazakhstan by exactly 10 minutes 😂

Steam Next Fest was back and more impossible than ever, with 30% more new demos available than the June '25 edition. Here's a breakdown of the demos added over the years, with a breakdown of when they were added to Steam in relation to each next fest (3,2, 1 week before hand, or on launch day)

Seeing a talk by @hanney.bsky.social right now, about Steam reviewers. Using data to debunk many common misconceptions. For example, asking folks on Twitter or Bluesky to please review your game, doesn’t work. Instead, focus on the folks who already review many games!

Happy National Solitaire Day! To celebrate we have just updated Forbidden Solitaire with a New Game+ difficulty mode, which is balanced for players who own all gems+jokers and features harder puzzle and combat levels. Enjoy! store.steampowered.com/app/3414580/...

Forbidden Solitaire on Steam

Forbidden Solitaire is a card-slashing horror game about unearthing the contents of a cryptic 1995 CD-ROM that should have never existed. From the creators of Ancient Enemy and Home Safety Hotline.

Every Monday I start writing a blog post about the top 5 reviewed new releases, and every Thursday night I'm still retooling the new feature on Gameplainer to help explain wtf happened. This weeks rabbit hole included analysing nearly 7000 posts on the Mixtape forums for toxicity 🧵

The Mixed Tape Steam forums marked for toxicity.. it was a WILD weekend

Forbidden Solitaire is a *classic* Easily the highlight of the last few weeks of games, and if it wasn't for my 20-years-delayed play through of Shadow of the Colossus, last few months. The moment @writnelson.bsky.social chimed in a voiced character shouldn't have shocked me the way it did 👏

Steam Review Review timeeeee! Every Thursday I go through the top 5 reviewed new releases of the past week with Gameplainer.com's review and forum tools to try and a) make sure the thing works b) look for ways to make it better for users of the site c) ✨make snazzy new graphs 📈✨ Thread time🧵

The weekly Steam report is a couple of days late this week.. I ended up doing a full rewrite of the Gameplainer forum monitor halfway through. It now runs way faster, and so my poor lil server can have a slightly calmer weekend! 😅 This week was all about the demos!

ICYMI - my game Treeplanter is OUT NOW! 1 copy sold = 1 tree planted IRL🌲 No timers, challenges or pressure. Just building beautiful woodlands that change with the seasons and time of day you choose 💚

Steam UX gripe: Every time I start a game that requires a controller this modal window pops up - which I appreciate as it's a reminder that the game *needs* a controller; ~ 𝒽𝑜𝓌𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇 ~ you can't close the prompt with a controller, it needs a *mouse* 🫠 🎮

Steams's reminder that the game you've just started needs a controller can't be dismissed with a controller button press, and requires a mouse

as part of building Gameplainer I downloaded all of the steam reviews. This one is officially the "most played after leaving a negative review" They replied to their own review 11 years ago. in the past two weeks they haven't played the game for nine whole hours. What even is a steam review

KillerKoala has played Marvel Puzzle Quest for 327.8 hrs last two weeks / 100,395.0 hrs on record (1,531.2 hrs at review time)

Gameplainer weekly review time ding ding - big ol' breakdown of the reviews that came in for the 800 or so games released last week. Reviews went down from 75k last week to just *ten thousand* this week.. carnage of a Spring sale! Thread timeeeee 🧵

Top three reviewed games this week - Life Is Strange: Reunion (1585 reviews), Eastern Era (671) and AI Limit DLC (626)

I would describe our game's gameplay as: the parts in Portal 2 in between test chambers and the parts in Half Life 2 and Mirror's Edge where no one is shooting at you. Oh and last year it shifted from a linear game to a metroidvania.

Gameplainer review data time! Crimson Desert pulled nearly 60% of all Steam reviews tracked this week. its developer replied to zero forum threads... then came the ai art scandal 😬 🧵let's dive into a lil thread!
