Thanks so much for taking the time to talk to me @gamespodcast.bsky.social about the layoffs at id Software. We have been very proud to make games so many people loved. Some of the best game developers in the business were let go for reasons that aren't clear and I don't know how to make sense of it

I remember when I used to spend my weekends enjoying my free time and not wondering if Microsoft will lay off another 1600 of my fellow XBOX coworkers come Monday. Good games do not get made in these working conditions.

Workers throughout North America came together to #SaveOurDevs in response to the senseless layoffs Microsoft performed last week. Unions across @cwaunion.bsky.social are saying enough. The id Software union, BFU, plans to fight like hell.

Game workers and allies are taking action at #SaveOurDevs rallies! Earlier this month, Microsoft reported that they would be laying off thousands of workers across the company – impacting hundreds of union jobs. An injury to one video game worker is an injury to all.

On Wednesday, July 15th there will be emergency rallies at multiple Xbox locations across the US and Canada in protest of the thousands of jobs needlessly cut. We've had enough. Unions are here to fight to save the game industry from the management dead set on destroying it. Join us in the fight!

how about the dapper @hays.fyi, showing us game devs that class & comfort aren't exclusive. the Hilton Costa Mesa's atrium is nicely bright and open. it's also a touch... SoCal hyperreal? like you can't have *too* large of a space without some palm trees. #photography

Chris Hays, a white man with round red-framed glasses and a salt-and-pepper mustache, smiles at the camera. he's standing outside a hotel's windows with plants nearby; he's wearing a white fedora with brown band and small feathers, a beige linen (or rough silk?) blazer, a terracotta knit button-up shirt, light linen slacks, brown square-pointed loafers, and a white cloth shoulder bag.looking from halfway up a tall, bright hotel atrium. there are wooden slat overhangs covering several areas and glass pod elevator rises on the right. in the middle is a palm tree.

And we've reached 5,000 followers! A big day for news. Did you know that there are over 5,000 unionized gamedevs with CWA in North America, too? Something tells us we're just getting started on both fronts. Thanks for coming along with us for the journey, and don't hesitate to reach out 💪

Every day there are new reports of ICE detaining and targeting our communities. Video game devs and the workers who keep our workplaces running are not safe from this. That’s why we’ve launched WE DON'T PLAY WITH ICE, a campaign demanding companies commit to becoming 4th Amendment Workplaces.

After working in the games industry for almost 16 years this year will finally be my first GDC. I hope to see a lot of familiar faces this week!

With all the terrible things happening recently one thing I've been very grateful to see is the solidarity of unions. For the first time in my life I feel like there has been real push back and the front of that has had union support. We can make a difference together!
