I find it a bit funny when conservatives complain about how "woke" academia is. Those of us who actually work on research that affects marginalized groups constantly have to justify our existence to disciplines who argue that we're not "mainstream enough."

Hiring sprees for “conservative” professors is certainly a… move… in an environment where Black studies departments are being eliminated across the country, and some profs are scared to teach something as banal as Plato’s Symposium.

Dear lord, what are they trying to AVOID discovery of? Cancelling grants solely because the state where the grantee happens to be located did not vote for Trump is the less damaging thing they will admit in writing?

It's part of a major federal court case over those cancelations. Here's what the government admitted as part of a process meant to avoid discovery (and perhaps spare it from sharing more damaging records):

52 senators voted in favor of allocating an additional $70 billion to fuel ICE and Border Patrol's campaign of chaos and violence in our communities without any reforms. The House of Representatives must reject this bill and any attempts to give ICE more money to violate our rights.

Graphic reading "These senators voted to deport DACA recipients and supercharge ICE’s violence without any reforms:" Underneath, it reads the names of the 52 senators.

I found it frustrating to do legal/policy epidemiology with non-lawyers, because most non-lawyers don't care about or understand the legal idiosyncrasies that can prevent a law from having the effect you think it will. I was often encouraged to pay less attention to these types of variables.

Says Prof. Scott Burris from @templelaw.bsky.social in #LSA2026 by @lawandsociety.bsky.social soc: Paper looked at ten years of studies of legal epidemiology. Lack of attention to legal variables. Nothing in methods about legal variable and how they got it.

This is why Elizabeth Emens calls "life admin" an invisible cost of being disabled. It always incenses me that no one I talk to recognizes that time I spend talking to them is time I'm not able to spend working, relaxing, or doing literally *anything else*.

The rage of the American Mom starts with the receipts she has to upload for her to for her FSA/HSA accounts, or the 15 Wufoos to sign to get her kid to the Zoo, or 17 emails that needed to refill a prescription. I work for Tech Lords as their clerk, www.nytimes.com/2026/05/11/o....
