Can a snapshot of cell signaling predict cell fate? 🤔 Combining iterative immunofluorescence, information theory & machine learning we show that combinatorial signaling encodes fate at single-cell level in 2D human gastruloids This reveals an interpretable & generalizable signal-to-fate map 🗺️

Summary: In a 2D gastruloid model for human gastrulation, FGF4 and FGF17 signal through basolateral receptors to induce primitive streak-like cells and derivatives, potentially restricted by FGF8.
