Really sobering discussion with my 4th-year students as they contemplate post-graduate employment. They talked about "overwhelming anxiety," disappearing career ladders, fake job ads, no safety net, massive uncertainty, desperation... I really don't understand what we're doing.
It’s true, there is a great deal of diversity of thought on the right. You got the Nazis, the pedophiles, the pedophile Nazis, the racists, the ultra-racists, and of course the bag-holders and marks for every dumbass fraud you can imagine. Truly a rich tapestry of human experience.

21st century political violence in the US doesn't really come from the left. It comes almost entirely from one of two places: 1. The far right. 2. Neurotic weirdos overwhelmed by pain and chaos with unmappable political opinions.
Call me crazy, but it kinda seems like there should be a more reliable mechanism for removing people from office than relying on their own sense of shame and the willingness of their political party to hold them accountable.

Honestly it wouldn’t surprise me if Trump declared himself Anti-Pope and tried to establish a new papacy in Florida. It would work out about as well as anything else he does but at least it would be more funny than horrifying.
