Disappointed But Not Surprised

builds castles in the cloud, occasionally lives in them. autodidact, neurodivergent weirdo, pretty decent cook.
At this point, Washington DC is just an assisted living facility for geriatric war criminals

In a few years there will be an entirely new genre of true crime podcasts, about people who died and nobody suspected anything was amiss until they started acting strange at the same time as Anthropic outages.
President Obama once delivered a speech in an open field for four hours during a thunderstorm while leaning against a very tall, pointy metal pole. President Trump should do the same, but for six hours, to demonstrate his strength.
Lol
Just landed at SFO. Pretty sure that’s not supposed to be on fire.
a common debate that happens every pride is whether cops should be allowed at pride events. and I know this might be controversial, but I want to propose a compromise: One Cop At Pride
It continues to be perverse that those with the least power to murder millions are at most risk of the barbarism of the death penalty, while those with power to murder millions are entirely immune not only from that penalty, but even any discontinuance of reward. www.the-reframe.com/the-cost-of-...
The Cost of Doing Business
A modest proposal: Abolish the death penalty for humans. Institute it for corporations.

"I first left legacy media when a new, disturbing consensus emerged in the press: that I was bad at my job. So I did what any rational journalism-averse person would do. I blamed everything on woke. On cancel. On not listening enough to diverse voices, like fascists."
The Press Has Finally Been Freed from Journalism
“The truth is, at best, inconvenient and, at worst, a threat to my bottom line. I have always believed it is the job of the news to write a rough draft of hi...

Lyft driver on route to airport is a die hard trumper, trying to explain how Trump is fixing everything. And his response to very reasonable pushback on any of his assertions was to threaten to drop me off on the side of the freeway. So, now we are listening to music and not talking.
The Marketplace of Ideas people immediately forcefully shut down all dissent, bought all media, sued & fired all critics & arrested & caged journalists reporting on their heinousness as soon as they got control & all of this was entirely predictable & people who warned of it were called overreactors
on my birthday I took to the newsletter to write about the AI commencement address backlash, and how growing anger at AI is now irreversibly tethered to justified rage at the extraction class -- whether AI boosters like it or not
AI Rage Is Inextricably Fused With Justified Loathing Of The Extraction Class. 'Deal With It'
Commencement AI booing reflects growing class revolt now tightly tethered to AI -- whether the technology's biggest proponents like it or not.

Really sobering discussion with my 4th-year students as they contemplate post-graduate employment. They talked about "overwhelming anxiety," disappearing career ladders, fake job ads, no safety net, massive uncertainty, desperation... I really don't understand what we're doing.
It’s true, there is a great deal of diversity of thought on the right. You got the Nazis, the pedophiles, the pedophile Nazis, the racists, the ultra-racists, and of course the bag-holders and marks for every dumbass fraud you can imagine. Truly a rich tapestry of human experience.
“Diversity of thought” is an expression invented by conservatives to imply that rejection of their ideas is a form of bigotry
It’s a good thing Congress isn’t alive to see this.
New in PN: Trump's $1.8b slush fund could turn into giant can of worms "The entire exercise is an elaborate troll. It is, as many people have commented, a vehicle for Trump to pay his supporters for the last attack, and maybe prepay for the next one using tax dollars. It’s also flagrantly illegal."
I'm very excited to be at OSHWA next week in Berlin, talking about open-source supply chain mesh networks for disaster resilience and response.
We are so excited to announce the talks and workshop schedule for #OHS2026! Check out the lineup and see who is joining us from all over the world to talk open source hardware and maybe even register for one of the incredible workshops we'll have running on Day 2: 2026.oshwa.org/schedule/
Excited to announce the creation of a new AI application called Broken Clock. It’s guaranteed to be correct at least twice a day.
There is a very long list of things that Musk doesn’t actually understand, to which we can append “free”, “speech”, and “absolutism”.
It's official! I'm *permanently* banned from X for tweeting "TLDR: Fascism." (appeal denied) What an honor—and a sign that the Silicon Valley billionaires feel threatened by my book. (One of my final viral posts featured this cover.) Pre-order here! www.simonandschuster.com/books/The-Ne...
Caught in the act of stealing from the bird feeder, you can see the exact moment the squirrel decides maybe this is not the best audience for this particular act.
21st century political violence in the US doesn't really come from the left. It comes almost entirely from one of two places: 1. The far right. 2. Neurotic weirdos overwhelmed by pain and chaos with unmappable political opinions.
Call me crazy, but it kinda seems like there should be a more reliable mechanism for removing people from office than relying on their own sense of shame and the willingness of their political party to hold them accountable.
Kanninen: "I wish Rs would do the same thing w/ Gonzales. Just 5 days ago there was a story about texts he sent another staffer after previous one killed herself. There's not been calls for him to resign. Anybody, R or D, w/ this kind of serious charge, should focus on their families, not politics"
Honestly it wouldn’t surprise me if Trump declared himself Anti-Pope and tried to establish a new papacy in Florida. It would work out about as well as anything else he does but at least it would be more funny than horrifying.
Always exciting to see the Avignon Papacy in the news
