September 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day. Today is a time to raise awareness of the ongoing impacts of residential schools and remember the children who never came home. How are you honouring the day?

people that make AI videos are going to super hell, but people that make AI videos specifically of just animals doing random things are going to hell 64

This is part of what I'm referring to with many people demanding stories that reassure them they're a good person. They want the moral instruction because otherwise, rather than processing the reading experience, there's a thrum of "am I bad? am I bad? what if someone finds out I'm bad?"

Tumblr post by graftini:

stories about abuse are allowed to exist without reducing themselves to moral instruction. i think sometimes when people complain about the “romanticization” of abuse, what they're actually objecting to isn't necessarily the way abuse is being represented, but the fact that the representation doesn't provide them with constant moral reassurance. like, there is a difference between “this story frames abuse as desirable or inherently romantic” and “this story depicts abuse in an erotic/ambiguous/complicated way and doesn't repeatedly tell me that abuse is bad, therefore the depiction itself is irresponsible.”

We live in an increasingly isolationist culture that encourages you to be emotionally stunted. Books and stories should be about experiencing minds different from yours. They should expand your empathy and emotional intelligence. But that doesn't happen if the reaction is constantly this:

Scroll of Truth meme, final panel where the adventurer throws the scroll in disgust because they did not like the truth

This is why I think everyone in the UK who retracts statements after legal threat is so spineless. Look at this placid defense from her team. This is the great minds that will mount her legal campaign. They will simply deny reality but that doesn't hold up even in a sham court.

Eye-wateringly stupid defence from Rowling’s team here - ‘She does not support legal actions aimed at harming transgender people.’ - Really? So that £70,000 towards the bathroom ban was by accident? The JKR Women’s Fund was made by an impersonator? At least have the spine to admit you want us dead

You know, when you find out that the art you like is made by people you've learned hold views you find wholly repugnant, I don't think you need to disavow ever having enjoyed the art. It's okay to acknowledge you liked or loved that art, but are now putting it aside. That was then, this is now.

Abusers exploit silence. They use the void to spin narratives. They want you gone when they're forced to face the truth. They'll lie to placate you. They'll threaten you to protect their image. Support those who risk speaking up about abuse. Truth is worth its weight in gold.

“Be Strong enough to be gentle.” Peter Cullen tells the story of how his brother inspired the voice he would use to play Optimus Prime. It’s a simple yet poignant quote that sums up why Optimus and Peter are so beloved. Til All Are One. 💔

I'm absolutely appalled that Tim Hortons has chosen to partner with the Harry Potter franchise, and enrich JK Rowling, whose unapologetic and public bigotry targets a tiny and incredibly vulnerable queer minority group. You can call Tim Hortons and tell them the same at 1-888-601-1616.
