The survey asked about different forms of discrimination due to sexual and/or romantic orientation, and 66.3% of ace respondents answered “Yes” to at least one of them. A similar percentage of asexual, graysexual, and demisexual respondents (66.5%, 67.4%, and 68.1%, respectively) also experienced at least one form of discrimination because of their sexual and/or romantic orientation. A slightly greater proportion of LGBPQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, polysexual / polyromantic, or queer) and trans/nonbinary aces (72.2% and 73.1%, respectively) responded that they had experienced discrimination because of sexual and/or romantic orientation. Respondents who were unsure if they were ace reported experiencing discrimination the least among the subgroups analyzed. However, roughly one in two (52.1%) still experienced discrimination because of their sexual and/or romantic orientation. More than half of non-ace respondents (58.6%) reported “Yes” when asked about experiencing discrimination because of their sexual and/or romantic orientation, which was less than ace respondents (66.3%), but more than respondents who were unsure if they were ace (52.1%).

The most common type of discrimination ace respondents experienced due to their sexual / romantic orientation was excessive or inappropriate personal questions (43.8%). The next most common experience was attempts or suggestions for how to “fix” or “cure” the respondents (40.2%), followed by verbal harassment (in-person and/or online) (32.1%), and being treated as if they were dishonest (29.1%). Approximately a quarter of ace respondents faced being treated with less courtesy and/or respect than other people because of their sexual / romantic orientation (23.1%), and close to one fifth experienced bullying (in-person and/or online) (19.3%). Because of their sexual / romantic orientation, ace respondents also experienced sexual harassment (in-person and/or online) (12.8%), physical harassment or violence (4.2%), and loss of material or financial support from family or others (2.7%). Roughly one in six ace respondents experienced other forms of discrimination (16.5%)

Ace respondents were asked how much discrimination, prejudice, or other negative experiences due to their sexual / romantic orientation had impacted certain aspects of their lives, on a scale from “0 (little to no impact)” to “4 (major impact).” As far as their mental or emotional health was concerned, 27.3% and 25.2% answered 0 and 1 respectively. 23.9% reported 2, 14.3% reported 3, and 9.4% reported 4. 47.9% selected “0” when asked about the impact on their relationships with family, 24.6% selected 1, 15.7% selected 2, 7% selected 3 and 4.8% selected 4. Inclusion in offline social activities were similarly impacted, with 52.9% selecting 0, 20.6% reporting 1, 15.5% reporting 2, 7.8% selecting 3, and 3.2% selecting 4.
61.1% reported 0 related to inclusion in online social activities, 19.0% reported 1, 12.2% reported 2, while 5.4% reported 3, and 2.2% reported 4.
Other aspects of ace respondents’ lives in which over half of ace respondents reported negative experiences having little to no impact due to their sexual or romantic orientation, were physical health or wellbeing (68.1%), the ability to choose a geographic location for their career or travel without concern (72.2%), inclusion in religious or spiritual communities that they were a part of / wanted to participate in (80.1%), the ability to find a job, fit in a job, or advance in a career (83.8%), and the ability to find housing or deal with a landlord or housemates (87.6%).
