Living in a freshman dorm inoculated me against this. I’ve had lots of well-meaning stoned idiots talk at me about stuff like this and after a while you learn to filter it out.

There’s no low-cost dopamine-milking mechanism for decent people to vomit out their rage at the swine who rule us so we get this instead. Suboptimal!

You have to assume that the wandering bards of archaic Greece were 1) of variable talent and 2) prisoners of their audience’s demands, which means there were uncountable poetic adaptations by talentless hacks that flattered local prejudices. The Nolan movie is probably better than lots of those.
Literary snobbery is a loadbearing pillar of a decent society, that’s just how it is.
