Uphold Karl Polanyi Thought

This is how I was talking about AES during this race when it appeared he was going to be an also-ran that was never going to be able to get enough attention to make it competitive. So miss me with "underperformance."

Me in November: Abdul El-Sayed should be getting more attention in the Michigan Senate race. He's anti-Zionist, pro-M4A, pro-rent control, and has an extensive union history. He would immediately become the most left-wing senator in the country next to Bernie Sanders.

Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.

Hardest cover art for an academic title I’ve seen in years. Perfect. No notes. This book is excellent, btw

You have to assume that the wandering bards of archaic Greece were 1) of variable talent and 2) prisoners of their audience’s demands, which means there were uncountable poetic adaptations by talentless hacks that flattered local prejudices. The Nolan movie is probably better than lots of those.
