I respect that though it is clearly possible to have basically any flat soled shoes converted for use in curling (eg like the American man in mixed doubles and his airforce ones), most people just solidly stick to postman pat shoes.

Been thinking about this quite a bit recently. According to google ngram viewer the change happened about 2006. Can't help but feel that this House of Commons committee report section (publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm5901/cm...) on the distinction misses the point!

Google Ngram Viewer graph comparing "violence against women and girls" and "violence against women and children"Section of report titled "A definition of violence against women and girls": "6. We welcome the long-term commitment by the Government to halve VAWG in a decade, but without a standard definition used across government, police and third sector organisations, performance against this commitment will remain difficult to measure. There is a broad definition that is used in the sector: VAWG is violence and abuse that disproportionately affects women. It includes, but is not limited to harassment, stalking, rape, sexual assault, murder, honour-based abuse including female genital mutilation, and coercive control. While men and boys also suffer from many of these forms of abuse, they disproportionately affect women.9 However, VAWG is defined differently by different organisations. For example, some definitions include victims and survivors who are men and boys, whilst others do not.10 On our visit to Vienna, we heard that in many countries VAWG is defined as violence against women and children, including boys. There is no statutory definition of VAWG—domestic abuse does have a definition in law, and this is only one type of VAWG.11 The Domestic Abuse Commissioner has argued that a standardised definition of VAWG services is required.12 To ensure that funding of VAWG services has the most impact and meets the Government’s target, the Home Office should be clear on what it is measuring and seeking to reduce."

When did violence against women and children become violence against women and girls? Does anyone believe boys don’t suffer violence / sexual violence?

Got this yearbook through the post today as a freebie because I contributed to the Glasgow City page. Really nice to see and the type of thing I would have loved as a child but was ofc not available in the 90s

Front cover of “the women’s football fan yearbook 2026”.Double page spread of the page in the book on Glasgow City

Hurt my wrist playing in goal a while back- thought it was a sprain. After swelling went down I noticed a lump over the end of the bone so thought I’d better get it x-rayed in case of small fracture.

Attendees at the #RDconf last Saturday voted on an emergency motion to show their opposition to the Supreme Court ruling on the definition of a woman. Read the motion below 👇 BMA-wide policy is set at the Annual Representative Meeting (ARM) in June 2025.

Another great football day! Glasgow City beat Celtic to progress in the Scottish cup (at a game attended by a duck???), palace men beat man united at old trafford and palace women got a hard earned draw

Trixie the tiger, Glasgow city’s cuddly costumed mascot, poses with the Scottish cupGlasgow City players Samantha van Diemen and Brenna Lovera at the edge of a football pitch greeting a live white duck on a lead. The players are wearing football kit and the duck has a Celtic fc branded ribbon on their back

Just had a look at the BSA annual conference programme grid and have seen that there is another Hilary Collins presenting (spelled with one L). Hopefully I might benefit from confused extra attendees at my talks haha
