I’ve been a part of online wildfire conversations for decades at this point. There is a real shift around these fires happening now - lots more people, including those directly impacted, saying we must stop climate change. A lot of folks locally talking about data centers, some about class/housing.

Ophie Dokie 🌻@ophiedokie.bsky.social · 5d agoSo, ok, a thing about telling yr audience "i use AI for my info gathering/research but then I look over it and fix any errors" is that you unfortunately told me youve outsourced your knowledge base on this subject to the machine, and therefore I have no reason to believe you CAN catch those errors
"data centers are good for the economy" is the same line they used for building prisons. And that has not turned out to be true. Instead though they show some increase in local jobs, often property values drop & there is little new economic activity. Don't become a prison town or a data center town
The Bi of Hormuz@joshstein.bsky.social · 5d agoNone of this is true. Data centers create very few jobs; they do not attract high income residents or businesses. In fact, they have demonstrably damaged property values (not to mention health, but easier to see and sue for).
they better hope they create the ai god because if not there will be hell to pay for the destruction they’re wreaking at the peak of the hype

You know, as a person who works in Admin at UVA I can tell you right now that tech - AI or not - does absolutely nothing but shift work from the top to the bottom. It does not improve effeciency, it just moves more labor onto people like me so VPs and CTOs can justify their jobs.

It does make sense: OpenAI was losing ground and mindshare to Anthropic. They are running out of money but couldn't IPO because SpaceX ruined it. This "our model is a Cyberweapon" is advertising directly to the Pentagon.
