If we experience ourselves as separate individuals, compassion is generosity directed outward. If we experience ourselves as one body, compassion is simply the natural response to our shared condition, and serving another is no longer sacrifice. It is participation in reality.
I was President of the San Diego County Medical Society during 2020-21. With CMA, we organized PPE donations to smaller physician practices to keep them open to care for people and Zoom meetings to support physicians and keep them up to date on a rapidly evolving new disease. #IStandWithFauci
