Approx. 20% of global oil production goes through the strait. So 5%, 20% … this means Iran takes a 1% cut off the top of the export …
By way of comparison, the total Iran defense budget is $20 billion a year. So Iran gets their defense budget paid for and then some. It's such a colossal strategic blunder that the mind boggles at the scale of it.

State-level polling is very hard to do well. Likely voter modeling is always very hard. Multiply those difficulties by 10 for a primary race.

The polling miss last night was historically exactly average for a primary — no evidence polls have gotten worse recently. ICE has now spent over $2.2 BILLION on purchasing 4 private prisons from CoreCivic, with the company banking half a billion dollars on the most recent sale. Of course, ICE will not actually operate these facilities; CoreCivic keeps the contracts to run these places for the foreseeable future.

Jon Collins@jcollins.bsky.social · 10h agoBreaking: CoreCivic has announced they've sold the 1,600 bed Prairie Correctional Facility in Appleton, Minn., to the U.S. through the Department of Homeland Security for $495.6 million. CoreCivic will still manage the facility, which is expected to start receiving ICE detainees this fall.
