“We’ve recruited a Nazi who is well qualified to teach the police about combating extremism and antisemitism” is maybe the most 2020s British politics sentence I have seen so far this decade

this is actually true, by the way, once you realise what we believe journalism to be is confined to about three rooms in the BBC and Channel Four and a buzzsawed hard drive in the Guardian's basement, and they are despised by the REAL journalists doing the hard work of regime stenography

Tim Shipman article headlined "Rod Liddle Was one of the finest journalists of his generation". The accompanying picture is Liddle squatting on a pebble beach wearing an ill-fitting suit, looking like his knees will explode the moment he tries to straighten himself up.

there‘s an old line attributed to Max Planck, ”science advances one funeral at a time” - in the UK we’ve decided that advancement isn’t quite what we’re after, so our funerals are fabulous ways to reinforce and place ourselves in the same order that’s existed since the 1830s

There's one big club in the UK, you're definitely not in it and you're *absolutely* not allowed to criticise anyone who is.

tuned into Palace vs Famalicao at Como's stadium out of sheer boredom. depending on their adhd diagnosis whoever the camera operator at Como's ground is needs to either massively increase or massively reduce their amphetamine usage because they're swinging the view around like Uwe Boll

Just in case you still use any Basecamp products, DHH is crashing out about his AI product gently pointing out that it’s bad for him to have extermination fantasies about the Roma people.

DHH tweet saying “This is why we need competition and open weights in Al. Imagine a world where only Anthropic sat as the moral arbiter of acceptable speech. Fucking ridiculous. (Grok of course did it no problem, same too with Kimi K).” when presented with his blog post using a slur about the Roma people.

The settler mobs operate on tacit approval from the Israeli government and the IDF are on hand to protect them in case anyone shoots back. This gets to the core of it though: Palestinians - as subhumans, within the Israeli system - have no recognised right to self-defence.

Killing an illegally-present, occupying soldier is verbatim the most legal thing a person is allowed to do under every single international law.

Today's deadly clash in the West Bank began when about 30 settlers, including armed men and minors, entered Tell, a Palestinian village that Israelis are not allowed to enter, using a "hike" as cover. They did not coordinate with the IDF, even though it is required. The incident ended in a gunfight that killed two Israelis and four Palestinians, and the IDF sent five more companies to the area to contain the situation the settlers had started.
None of this excuses the Palestinian who seized a weapon and killed an Israeli officer. That is a crime in its own right, and two Israeli families are grieving tonight. But it does not change how the events began, or who set them in motion ALT
