I regularly think back to @okwonga.bsky.social's posts which (to paraphrase) highlighted one of Germany's biggest political challenges being an older middle-class which is well off, comfortable as a result, and in turn bored; so they ended up essentially radicalising themselves at dinner parties.

A writer goes in search of her most vicious online troll and finds a middle-class 74-year-old woman who has made more than 120,000 trolling comments on the Daily Mail alone, but sure, it's teenagers who need their online experiences surveilled and censored. Archive link. archive.ph/pPrha

A student of mine once told me they found Nigel Farage discourse difficult because his daughter was in her old brownies group and he was nice in person. This resulted in a ten minute class dissection of the concept of niceness.

There's no female equivalent to the woman-abuser-to-mass-shooter pipeline we see with men. I'm not aware of women engaging in "family annihilation," where they kill their spouses, all the children, some additional relatives and finally themselves in the ultimate act of "you can't leave, I own you."

Liddle's ex-colleagues find it easy to defend his mainstream journalism as a lark But a conscious effort to ignore what his Millwall-Monkey stuff revealed."Even the Jews were allowed to smoke at Auschwitz" was reported. His "niggermeat, not wogmeat" comments + most virulent sexist threads were not

This. This gives me joy. I was their tutor. Look, one of them hand-drew the pictures for the leaflet:

Great to see this live! A new family-focused trail at Southsea Castle, created by 4 of our excellent @uophistory.bsky.social 2nd year students, Madi, Charlie, Magdalena & Ben! 😃👏 On over the summer holidays - go & give it a try (suitable for kids of all ages!). www.port.ac.uk/news-events-...

Surreal to see AFD campaign posters on my main road in Berlin - there was a time where they wouldn’t dare/bother hanging them here. A poll-leading party that many academics think should have been banned years ago as a danger to democracy. Still, we migrants are the main threat, eh. 👍

We know that Elon Musk is a vocal supporter of the right wing AfD party in Germany, but you may also be interested to hear about some of the priorities of Reatore Britain, the political party Musk is trying to see take power in the UK. Their 5 priorities- youtube.com/shorts/-73xK...

“Anything massively newsworthy that may have happened in the last few days in football… we’re not going to talk about it…” How little we knew! Pre-recorded earlier last week (before we headed on a quick break) so next week's episode will be the big one on all the Gianni Infantino / FIFA nonsense.

Today's members only episode is up now and it's something a little different. Using the discourse around The Odyssey as a starting point, there's chat about creative decisions, especially in film, plus we're joined by @artbutmakeitsports.bsky.social in part two! www.patreon.com/stadio/posts...

“FIFA is not a private enterprise. It is a body held in trust for the game and its members. Those appointed to serve it carry a fiduciary duty, a duty of service over power. Where that duty is not upheld, accountability cannot be optional.” holy hell, CONCACAF brought out the axe against Infantino

Jonathan Tannenwald@jtannenwald.bsky.social · 4d ago

Concacaf drops a hammer on Gianni Infantino: "This recent unilateral and egregious act of poor governance and leadership follows a pattern of missteps and similar behaviour. A comprehensive reckoning with this presidency is imperative." www.concacaf.com/news/concaca...

Other outstanding questions include how Infantino was allowed to value 20 percent of FIFA's business for just $4.2bn? The World Cup just completed generated $15bn. This would have given the owners in this closed-shop stake sale ability to potentially flip their interests for billions more.

In a week of incendiary statements, this from Kevin Lamour, who at least for tonight remains FIFA COO, is incredibly damning in that it is from an insider that goes beyond this one scheme and is an assassination in a few hundred words of the FIFA president as a leader of global football.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
