The most compelling reason to leave substack is that the trajectory of the platform is clear. They'll be going the route of TikTok, Facebook, Instagram. Once creators are wholly bound to their platform, they'll start sucking away all the revenue and folks will have nowhere to go.

I saw The Odyssey last night. I enjoyed it. I also was disappointed how much he managed to turn the story into another Christopher Nolan film. He has so much to work with and yet keeps dipping his pen into the same pot of ink.

This week was a watershed moment for me. I just got my second dose of the shingles vaccine, and was having side effects. I searched for information about it with the CDC. Half a beat later, I went to the NHS site, because I knew I couldn’t trust the CDC anymore. (I had a fever. No biggie.)

Purely anecdotal, but I used to get a cough each winter that would last months - since replacing our gas stove with induction several years ago, my lungs have stayed clear. I'm delighted but not entirely surprised by results of this study. We should not be burning gas in our homes (or anywhere).

Hi, this is Holden emerging from my Bluesky hiatus to tell everyone that when checking the links in the piece, I used ChatGPT as my search engine (does anyone use Google anymore?). The piece was written by me and edited by humans. So all the links were checked by me and again by our copyeditors.

Location sharing helps my anxious, OCD wife know I'm safely at the grocery store. Doorbell and house cams let us stay in touch and know each other is safe while we're separated by an ocean and visa problems. Bluetooth tags help us find our things. Some tech is benign if used humanely.

Your location sharing tells corporations and government where you shop, where you worship, and who you are with. Your doorbell cams are used by ICE to find people in your community.
