Not to be unkind, but I am so impatient about the “what’s the point of making my little zines/comics/crafts/art when the world is on fire” sentiments. I get it, but saving the world is not a responsibility shouldered by your art! That’s what being a neighbor, a friend, and hell, a citizen is for!!!

Some traditional plein air (and a study of Pride and Prejudice) from this year’s Plein airpril. Strangely, I think my traditional studies end up way more successful than my digital. Perhaps because I had a more limited palette to work with?

Passion Tax is so real. I've never known an artist who wasn't just scraping by -- even the ones you think are successful. Even the ones working in studio. It makes you feel like you're insane, fighting for scraps.

this "passion tax" appears all over the place & should be talked about more. you see it in book stores and game stores all the time excitement for particular work is constantly weaponized to depress wages & pit workers against each other

I am an adherent to the philosophy that all the best artists are perverts in some way, if not openly then privately. What is perversion if not having unchecked passion, the same passion that fuels artistry.

I've witnessed people I know get dumber very quickly because they use ChatGPT too much. They go from only asking about code to asking how to answer a basic email or even use it during work calls. It doesn't make them more productive, just unreliable and disfunctional.
